    The oil I bought was the Delvac MX, I had to go to a distributor to get it as no one carries it. It is a Dino oil that is recommended for older engines.

    I tend to shy away from "specialty" oils that are not readily available. If I can't find it on the shelf at a store (i.e. Walmart or any farm supply store), I'm not going to use it. I want to know that if I'm out on the road and need a gallon, I can find it.

    I had to buy three cases so I had two extra gallons, but I see your point. The new oils that are formulated for post 2007 engines don't like engines that produce high amounts of soot, so I went looking for a different alternative.

    I changed over from delo 5w40 synthetic , which is what the truck had in it when I bought it, to rotella 15w40. I'm seeing a lower oil consumption and no change in mpg after the switch over. according to the experts I should have seen a drop in mpg by up to .5 but I haven't seen any change and also am using less oil between services. I also don't have any issues with cold starts either, truck starts just as easy as it did with the synthetic oil in it.
    Im going to be sticking with the rotella for a while as it is doing the job and it's allways cheap to buy it by the drum at Walmart .

    I ran the Delo 5w40 synthetic for the winter, for two oil changes, and just changed oil and went back to Delo 15w40. Have ran extensive oil analysis samples since I got the truck. I saw no difference in oil samples on synthetic or dino Delo. Fuel mileage was a no change also. The only advantage to the synthetic was a little easier starting on a very cold morning after a break without having truck plugged in. At home plugged in, no difference. So.... no need to continue using the synthetic if there is no real benefit. Going to stay with the 15w40 Delo. The wear numbers, TBN retention, and all the other things you look for on oil samples was almost identical whether on standard Delo or the synthetic. But that was my engine. Someone else may get different results. Was using bypass filter on both oils also.

    does anyone see any benefits to running a synthetic oil such as Schaeffers, I am ready to change the Rotella T6 and try something else as i am not real pleased with and thinking about going back to regular oil.

    <-Volvo 780 D13/2008; 1,064,000 miles, original motor and.. turbo. as i mentioned above i'm running only synthetic 5W40 T6/Mobil 1.
    If the turbo blows up, what usualy goes is the bearing ,this is the highest RPM spinning part in the motor, i read goes to 100,000 RPM like a jet engine; Maybe i'm wrong, but from my experience, i believe the 5w40 synthetic oils are doing a better lube job on turbo bearing;
