It occurred to me that some of those that complain loudly about speaking English have some of the worst grammar skills on this forum....Ironic!

Ok guys, give the poor guy a break. He was only seeking advice. After all he had a perfectlly legal driver who was racial profiled by a racist pig. Just because this cop did not like the drivers grasp of the english language is no reason to place the poor fellow out of service. Just remember that someday you may need his help when you are racially profiled for only understanding english, when the national language is something else.

Besides as formertaxidriver said we must all become more proficient in our future second language. Appreciate the advice from someone who resides in a state that allows college credit for a foreign language known as "pigeon". Interesting language I must say.

You need to be able to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language. That's the rule that's the law. It's the way it is for good reason.

Once again, an officer does his job and is a bad guy for it......this time a racist. This was a GREAT reason to place this driver out of service. Learn the laws before you come here and complain.

Pidgin (aka Hawai'ian Creole English) is a distinct language. Even those that speak very "Haoulified" (mainland style) still have a distinct lilt that I can detect. I consider myself bilingual with it. There are many words in our regional dialect that have roots in different languages adopted from the dozens of immigrants that came here. It can also get someone in trouble. When I first started driving taxi here in the 80's, I had a very hard time understanding the dispatchers over the two way radio. Consequently, I am quite sympathetic to the struggles of newcomers with working language.

One other thing, the OP never mentioned skin color. Why did you feel it was necessary to take it in that direction?
