I don't have any specific tips as the guy I use was a referral, and I am not sure how he first got work with the other owner.

I have seen it that many mechanics that go out on their own worked in a dealership and the owners came to know and like the work they did and were able to get them to use them when they went out on their own.

I would target the 3-10 company truck operation with slightly used equipment. A company this size likely won't have their own shop and their equipment is likley not under warranty so they don't have to go to the dealship. Are you looking to do just engine repairs or do all general repairs as well. The guy I use does a lot of repairs to gravel trucks. The tarp mechanisms break quite a bit.

    robo244 Thanks this.

There was a young mechanic I met, he has an old trailer with a sign painted up on 1 side facing the hwy at a small truck stop.

Another that I don't know bought out a family business where the parents were unable to continue and the son left the area, he gets some of their former business.

Many truck stops, at least the non major ones , have a listing of services available or a bulletin board displaying ads for trucking related businesses. If you specialize in anything truckers need, that is a good place to get the word out.

    Good luck with your business.

website. Make sure you look at the metatags that you add into it's design. You may want to go talk to a local technical college and see if you can work with a marketing class and get them to help you out. Be amazed at what some of these students are capable of. Right down to designing a website for your business.

Mostly looking to do complete trailer repair and prevenative maintenence on trucks at this time, once I can afford the more expensive diagnostic tools id like to move into all around repair and possibly open a small shop. Ive talked to alot of my old employers customers and they like my work but are under contract with them for a set amount of time (my old employer is shady but a very smart business guy) So I would have to wait for them to expire to pick up work. Ive been told good and bad things about working on owner/operators regarding getting paid but if people need work done I dont see the problem as long as I have proof I did the work.
