That's the point . I know and respect some O/O's that are successful . They know their business well and there is nothing new I or anyone else can tell them . Most have found a niche that pays well and they aren't looking for more of the shipping market . Many have regular base customers and don't deal with brokers .
Your theories may work well with larger , general freight carriers but you're posting in the expedite and hotshot forum .
If you want your ideas to get to be known in the industry contact Todd Dills , Senior Editor of "Overdrive Magazine " . He has a Facebook page in his name or his contact info can be found in the Overdrive print or online digital issue .

Well, if you're not going to read what I've posted, then conversation seems to be impossible.

I suggest that a bunch of O/O's, be they hotshot or otherwise, all join together in a consortium to build themselves a market presence to compete with the big guys, if they so choose. You ask me how many people are using this.

And when I ask you what your ideas are for expanding market reach for O/O's, you say "I know some that are successful and I can't tell them anything".

    I'd suggest reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non_sequitur_(logic)

First what the previous poster said is absolutely right. But heres the real reason o/o's and company guys will never make more etc. Youve got too many braindead, uneducated right wing morons screaming about how they hate unions.. funny thing of course is a lot of them make their money because unions fought for them. But theyre like monkeys with a jar of bananas..

I used uship as a shipper once. I neede a 27 foot power cruiser moved about 200 miles. I drove a dry van at the time and had no free time to get a truck, labor etc etc. I think i paid 300.. Low i know but it was at their convenience etc.

Well i drove to meet them. They apparently couldnt rent a trailer so i had to do it (boat trailer.. i think it was 100 a day maybe 200). I had to help load it which was a pain. Then we drove back they had a little new jeep.. one of the suv's not a real jeep. Thing could barely pull up little hills and we had to go up the mountain in sc to nc.. it was weaving all over. DOT at the time only wanted commercial vehicles not all trucks so they didnt get pulled. I warned them if dot pulled them it was on them. Got to my house it's sunday at about 3pm I have to deliver 400 miles away in the morning. I had to break out 5 bottle jacks, straps, comealongs to get it unloaded. We got it unloaded at 9pm. At the beginning before all this i offered them $100 extra because they showed up early, everything was going well etc.. even with me renting the trailer. end of story is i ended up basically doing the whole #### load myself with a class c pulliing the boat i loaded on the trailer i rented. I was hurting when i delivered the next day. They then put a complaint on uship because i didnt pay them the extra hundred.

The reason i used it was it was my only real option unless i paid a dedicated boat hauler $2000 or something to haul it. Paid $1500 for the boat...
USHIP isnt made for professional truckers guys. It's made for those idiots you see on that show. See that grey haired #######? Think he'd make it 10 minutes in trucking? If he leased to someone theyd fire him on day two. Those kids are who its made for. The girl whos got a truck. That kid who's always screwing up. It's not made for a guy who has to make $1.50 to $2 a mile NOT including unloading and loading and who has to run a full sized truck in places bedbuggers go.

Best bet is stay away from uship or use it as a "need an emergency load out of here". If you guys really wanna do that though you could try runnning ads in craigslist for the day youre going to be somewhere. Be a pain but probably less of a pain than booking regular loads. Just "flatbed semi will be in X town on Y date accepting loads @ $2 a mile. contact xxxx".

When you start yelling "moron" at the other guy, make sure you're not one yourself. I'm sure you are convinced to the death that unions are the saving grace of all things, but I and others won't agree with you. Since this thread wasn't political, I'll just let you stew in your partisan juice, other than to note that you're unable to separate partisan politics and reason. And partisan politics is NEVER reason.

Alright ive just about had it with this. You DONT have a CDL, YOU'RE NOT AN OWNER OPERATOR, you have probably never jumped in the cab of a truck in your entire life yet your telling us o/os how it should be done. Starting an argument with rickg is a stupid thing to do seeing as he has forgot more about this industry than youll know in any lifetime. I have a tremendous amount of respect for that man after reading his posts i miht not agree with everything he says but he knows what hes talking about. You on the other hand have a know it all attitude, havmt ever done this, but yet you're an expert on everything. So tell you what put your plans into action start your own company do it your way but 3 months is all i give you before your out of the industry because it didnt work out. And it wont work out because you dont wanna listen to what everybody's saying you just want to argue. We're all for helping who wants the help but if you dont want the help and all you want to do is argue why post and waste our time and your time?

Wow, I didn't know a CDL was required to come up with marketing and business ideas.

    I bow to your wisdom.

Don't you two have more "heavy hitters" to bring to post and try to intimidate me into shutting up?

cd where did I bring you into this? I don't recall brigning you into this and trying to insult you or anything of that sort. My problem is not with you it's with powerwagon trying to tell owner operators how to run their company's when he has no clue or knowledge of what goes on. You can throw insults at my driving ability, and my truck all you want won't hurt me a bit so go right ahead do it all you want. I'm happy with what I do, and happy with my truck. If I'm not a "real trucker" in your mind ain't no skin off my back.

I have yet to tell any trucker how to be a trucker or run their company. Not sure why you are trying to put words in my mouth...
