What on EARTH do you drive?
The last time I hauled a tractor with the 3500, I was grossing 23000 to 24000, and a 6% grade, I never dropped below 45 and the mpg never read less than 3. My friend and I went to get a tractor he bought on Ebay. I had the 3500 and hitch... he had the trailer - again, not for hire. Maybe you need some work or to buy a Dodge. It's a 300hp 5.9 Cummins. -
If you buy a modestly priced used truck that's not wore out your cost should run about 80cpm with 4.00 a gal. fuel.
This is with insurance at the 4-5k range. -
You think a new guy can get insurance at those rates?
-
I'm a new guy (Aug 2012) and my insurance cost me $5,600 for the year, paid in full.
I put together a Cost Per Mile spreadsheet that I use to calculate my operating costs. If anyone wants it, PM me your email address and I send it to you.
Much Success!
