I got hired by my company in August. I went through two whole months of training with two different trainers. The first trainer I had talked on his phone CONSTANTLY, not only while he was supposed to be observing me, but also while he was driving. He also never let me drive at night time and I was barely ever allowed to back the truck up. Meanwhile he wanted to stop everywhere... I swear this guy had a booty call in almost every state. One time, he kicked me out of the truck for over two hours so that he could have a "guest" in the truck. Once I came back, he had already left and didn't come back until 11:00 the next day. Another time, he dropped the trailer we were hauling at a walmart parking lot so that he could take a shower at his girlfriends house. I feel like an idiot for putting up with all of it and not reporting him... Finally he ended up kicking me off the truck when I refused to keep the air conditioning on because I was shivering. He said it was "his truck, his rules." He dropped me off at a truck stop in the middle of Tennessee and I waited over 8 hours for a cab, then had to take another bus to meet my second trainer. He was a lot nicer and everything, but it wasn't too long before he started getting a little too friendly. He sent me creepy text messages in the middle of the night with little kissy faces... and said some *ahem* inappropriate things... again, barely ever allowed to back and never allowed to drive at night. I will say he was very thorough with making sure my logs were filled out correctly?
My training experience with USXpress was MISERABLE and incredibly uncomfortable. I just wanted it to be over! I'd had it with the creepy dudes, so when it came time for team driving I requested to be teamed up with another lady.
Upon upgrading to team status I passed all of the tests, 45 degree backing, straight backing, 90 degree backing, and blind side backing, which my trainer showed me how to do for THE FIRST TIME, IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE TEST. The thing is, they passed EVERYONE that took the test that day, even the guy that took over ten minutes to do a 45 degree back even when the testing guy was telling him which way to turn the wheel the ENTIRE time.
While I was teaming, I ended up getting into two backing accidents, both at night time. The first accident took place at a shipping location, where I drove into the wrong parking lot (the gps led me there, dispatch gave me no directions and didnt even tell me that it was a drop and hook, in fact, they said I had a live load appt) Someone who worked there came along and helped me back out, because there wasn't enough room to turn around and the road behind us was pretty busy. I got out to look several times and had him help spot me, but it was really dark and the parking lot was poorly lit, so I ended up rolling over a rock and it damaged the oil pan. The rock was not damaged.
The second accident I was in, I was tired from driving all day and stopped at a TA and ended up backing into another truck's headlight while trying to get into a space.
I told safety department that I wasn't comfortable with the amount of training I received, and all they did was have me watch a video.
Just recently I was involved in another backing accident and now USXpress has placed me on suspension and I'm likely to get fired next week after the CSA meeting.

I really want to succeed in this industry and I feel that I was kind of screwed out of getting the tools and training in order to even have a fighting chance in the trucking world.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Is there any way I can improve my safety score? Do I have any chance of getting another job? Is there anything I can do to keep my job? HELP!?!?

That story sucks! Sounds like you were thrown to the wolves.

If I was in your position and were serious about getting another job, I would check in to one of the companies that may clear your DAC.

I don't know anything about clearing a DAC but if it's anything like clearing a credit report it might help.

    Edit:

After doing that, I have no clue.

You may still need to get on with a training company. Someone reputable.

Try Schneider. I had the same thing happen to me at Werner. Schneider gave me another chance at trucking with the understanding that if I hit anything, I was fired. I've been at Schneider for 8 months now without incident.

The key is to only use the GPS as a tool and to always GOAL if you have the slightest inkling that you might hit anything. My advice is to apply at multiple places and to be honest with potential employers. They have ways to finding everything out anyway, so be truthful upfront. Good luck driver.

Thats too many accidents. Never back up if you cant see where your trailer is! Dont prove nothing to nobody, if you got to pull front and back 20 times? do it! if you think you should nose in, do it! but three accidents, wow, and they kept you as a rookie to watch a video after your second hit and still came back with a third? try more training and call the bottom feeders. Good luck driver.

I asked for more training... a video is not training.... when i expressed my concern about the sexual harassment, they told me that it would take a long time to find a female trainer for me.

well hope you find a company that will hire you. the company i run for actually uses qualcomm logs but no navigation and ive grown to love it because it makes me think at all time. it makes guys get out the ol' atlas and actually look at it. i use my atlas so much now and also google maps has helped me a ton.

Unless you have x-ray vision and can see through the trailer, you're never going to see whats on both sides of it. I also disagree with 20+ pull-ups. Granted you will ensure you won't hit anything, you are also going to hold up everyone else. If the OP does leave USExpress for another company, he's gonna need to start over again from square 1.

That's total BS. They tried that with me also, but I stood my ground and guess what? 2 days later I had the n/s female trainer I had requested. When I first saw her, I thought "OMG, what have I goten myself into"(she's like 6'/240 lbs & looked a little intimidating), but, she was the best trainer EVER. Patient, never raised her voice, showed me how to route (because the navigation isn't always accurate or working) & utilize my time properly, allowed me to think thru how I got in a situation and how I was going to get myself out of it. Only if I couldn't figure it out would she give me hints. A couple times she had to take over and fix my problem, but most of the time I could do it with her guidance.
A girl I met in orientation had the same type of experiences you did. 3 trainers-1st one basically never let her drive & yelled at her all the time, 2nd one was a transgender who was flaky as all get out, 3rd one "fell in love" with her and held her hostage on his truck. She had to call the police to get him to let her off. She was so shaken by all this, she left the field altogether without ever experiencing life on the road.
As for your backing, after the first time they should have pulled you in for some training time. Like the others have said, you will likely have to go somewhere that has training. Good luck to you!

So why did'nt you tell your second trainer you wanted this training to be strickly professional after the first move he made on you?Far as the trainer is concerned,he probably thought you liked his textes because you did'nt say otherwise. If you have a sexual harrassment issue, you tell your company immediately, not after you get back to the terminal.
