So I talked to the recruier from FFE today and she told me that I would need my CDL before going to their training school, which makes no sense to me. How am I supposed to obtain a CDL permit without being trained first? I can't just go out and rent a diesel and practice in a parking lot, and I'm pretty sure you can't pass the test by only using the CDL manual. This is a tough catch 22 for people that cant afford driver academies. Is there anyway around this?

She simply said "CDL", and I tried to ask if she meant the actual license, or the permit, and I'm almost certain she said license.

Did they tell you that you needed your actual CDL or just the permit? I just went and wrote my permit and most of the endorsements. Then I'm off to a company that will train me for 3 wks to take my CDL drive test. When I get my license, they will hire me on. There are a few companies out there that are still willing to invest in helping you to get your CDL, but it will cost you. A pretty penny... or a year... sometimes 2 of your life. Swift, Prime, Roehl, Millis are some of a few..... Good luck!!

You just have to get your CDL permit which can be obtained by taking the written tests by going to the DMV. After obtaining your permit, you then go to company training where you will learn to drive the truck and hopefully pass the road test and obtain your CDL....hope this helps and good luck!

Paintedblack, They do have training, what she meant was you need to get your learners permit, Go on their website and look under (student truck driver training program) it will tell you everything, and the number to call, (hope this helps you out)

And, in my state, my DOT physical HAD to be on file in the state DMV system before they would hand me my permit. And this can apparently take up to 5 business days. The health center that gave me my physical actually faxed mine in for me, it was there in 2 days.

I'm trying to look for that information on the page, but can't find it anywhere. Can you send me a direct link to the page that explains this?

Well I tried to send you one, but they flagged it. I used "Truckers Truth" CDL Training Companies.... to do most of my research. He lists all the companies and what the requirements are.
