No, you don't need higher education. Just attend a good CDL school and apply for intra-state trucking jobs. Those jobs are out there, such as delivery jobs for construction/building supplies or maybe moving companies, cement tanker(delivering dry bulk cement/flyash to ready-mix cement companies), agriculture, etc. All moving companies, such as Mayflower also have agents leased to them, so the moving companies and the agents both have drivers.

Household Movers (bedbuggers)
Their agents can be found in the Yellow Pages or online.

If I had to do it over, I would have gone to college. Trucking isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Get your college degree along with the social experience. You'll make a DECENT living trucking if that's all you want out of life. But what most won't tell you is you won't make a GREAT living driving.
