Can anyone recommend a good mic for a cobra 29 NWWXST? I'm getting feedback when I use the PA. I'm sure it's the mic. The speaker is pointed away from the mic and is hooked up correctly. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with the pickup coil in the mic.

Great! Thanks! I saw a few reviews for it online but I figured I'd ask cause I don't always trust these reviews. I'll have to give it a try.

How far away is the speaker from the mic? Or do you have talk back? That will make your radio squeal.

But to answer your question, I like the Skythumper St65DX mics....or the Astatic 575-M6....which are hard to come by these days, but dang it if they don't sound sweet on the air.

The SRA-198 is a good "noise cancelling" mic. very similar to the RK-56 but, with a little less audio. The ST65-DX is similar to a power mic with no batteries......all the noise cancelling benefits of the RK 56 but, with about 30% more audio as tested against the 56. The 636L seems to have just a touch more audio than the 56 but to my ears sound tinny and cheap. If you just want the feedback to stop, I vote RK-56, if you want it to stop and have that loud audio of the "big radios" I vote the ST65-DX.

+1 for the Ranger SRA 198. great mic. the Astatic 636L is my second choice. the ranger is on my galaxy 99 in the big truck and the 636 is on my 2510 in the pickup.

No talkback. The speaker is about 4&1/2 feet from the mic, give or take an inch or two it's also separated by the firewall and pointed away from the mic. I'm pretty sure it's the mica pickup coil... I took the mic apart and if I squeeze the pickup coil while keying up it doesn't squeal.
thanks everyone for the suggestions. Now I have to make a decision... Maybe I'll try all of them. I have three radios, so I could put one on each and see what's best... But that might be a little expensive for my budget.

Flying j has the astatic 636 for $29.00 after ten dollar
rebate. How can you go wrong? Keep your external
speaker away from your mic. I'm assuming you ment
    external speaker not pa.
