was on the 550 in colorado a couple of weeks ago and needed to chain up. i was kind of curious about these new cable chains. i got them on real easy and was ready to go but as soon as i hit the steep grade i began loosing traction [ like driving on marbles] i pulled over and took them off, luckily i had a regular set of chains or i would have been stuck, i barely got over to the side of the road because as my wheels started spinning the automatic traction control kicked in and cut my power. I dont know about some of these new ideas they come out with,I dont need the truck driving for me. just sayin.....![]()

In my opinion I would never trust anything other than heavy metal, cables are for Yaris'.

with the cable chains once you start spinning you are in trouble, hope you didnt break them or get them out of shape. for me iron chains were always better
-
Cable chains are for inspection purposes only.
Trucail Thanks this. -
no, i didnt break them but will never use them again. May Trucking is really trying to push them because thet are cheaper, but how much money are we saving when you get stuck and need a tow...
-
also they are not legal legal in all states

How fast were you going in the cables? I bought a set and was doing 20-25 and chewed them all up. They were rated for 30mph. So I bought another set....lol do about 15 and they work ok for me. Never lost traction. The other thing I've noticed is to keep the RPM lower shift around 12 as soon as it gets near 1300 its all over the place.
