Places like Atlanta or Nashville have vending machines, microwaves, showers, exercise room and big flat screen televisions. Other places fall somewhere in between, but lately some of the older yards have been getting upgrades.raetnrunner Thanks this. -
thank you mustanggt i was with crete for for two and a half years they where ok but they felt like they never really wanted to do upgrades to terminals and when the shop went home they locked up the terminals making us drivers use a dirty port a potty. Does averitt lock the terminals up at night or do they keep them open. I have been searching for 4 years for a company can have the otr feeling but also would get you home every week for a day or two so you can spend time with the family.
iI would go out with crete for a month at a time and only be home for four days at a time. Was hard on the family and check due to the four days you took off you really didnt work for that week. This company seems better go out for 4 to 5 days make the money and then be home for a 34 or 48 hour perroid. I have a job now home every weekend but have ran into the problem where im spending to much time at home and not enough miles to cover the bills. Plus the good thing is recruiter told me with my experience i would start out at 42.5 a mile thats a 1.5 raise from crete and being gone for a month at a time cant beat it and it is a 8.5 raise with the current company i am with now along with the savings of 100 a week for medical, so theres a raise there as well. Am looking foward to starting with averitt sounds like the company me and my family have been looking for for the past 4 years. -

I wondered why Crete always has an ad on XM radio. Plus they have the drivers' years of service on the side of the tractors making it look like they don't have much turnover.

When you go to orientation they give you a card that has all of the yards and what they have available at each one for the drivers.

thank you guys crete will give you a truck to a newbie with 10 years of service on the sleeper that was for a driver that was there for 10 years but was so fed up with the company that he left and they never took the number off. They would treat the over the road drivers like regional drivers give you a 800 900 mile run then have you do small runs 150-300 milers for the rest of the week if that then they would keep you out on holidays unless you had vacation and they would give you a 700 miler for 4 or 5 days and their exscuse was for not getting you home was we have customers to serve so we want you to sacrafice 3 days of being laid over to del after the holiday. On top of that there is no HOLIDAY PAY with the company.

Newbie, I drove for Swift originally. Tried to stay away from terminals because the drivers lounges were filled with ticked off drivers who hated life. Listening to them was like a cancer eating away at anything positive you tried to find about the job which was difficult to do in the first place. Averitt has been great. Most facilities at least have a bathroom you can get into at night, and most with showers are available 24/7. Places like Meridian, MS are only available when someone is in the office. You won't have to fight for what they owe you. My detention pay is approved and added to my paycheck without me even asking for it. I hope it works out well for you.
Last week was a short week due to my body scan on Monday. (Got the word from the oncologist I am still cancer free. Now I only have to go in for blood work twice a year. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.) I left out on Tuesday and got home on Friday evening. Was still able to run 1700 miles. Left out today (Sunday) for Houston. The load is an LTL so I can deliver tomorrow even though it's not due until Tuesday at 7AM so I'll have it here by late tomorrow afternoon and get an 800 mile start to the week. No complaints on that.raetnrunner Thanks this. -
Thx bigmike, no i was just wondering about the terminals. I can tell alot about companies on how they manage their terminals as to how they trust their drivers, when crete would lock up the terminals at night it meant one thing to me and that is they dont trust the drivers and when you have to use a port a potty for the bathroom or when you got in late and wanted a shower it was to bad for the driver. This is the way i see it when they leave terminals open during the night is says to me make your self at home away from home, but when the lock up for the night its a big sign that they dont care if you want a shower or need to use the restroom or get caught up on laundry or basically just want to get out of the truck kick back and relax a little. And there are some areas i would rather go to a terminal than a truck stop exspecially areas where you have a lizzard banging on your door every hour of the night. Most the time i dont listen to the negative drivers to begin with most the time they are not happy with the company and some just want to hear themselfs talk and i have been known to say a few times when you cant ignore them if your not happy then why are you still here. Been driving now for the past 4 years and i know how to tell what companies are the good ones and which are the bad and which ones are ok for the moment but know when the right one comes along you will jump ship, and right now averitt sounds like the perfect ship for me and my family.
raetnrunner Thanks this.
