Good luck convincing an inspector or auditor that driving to pick up an empty trailer isn't considered performing work. Or driving to get fuel for that matter.

You all are working way to hard if you are so worried about HOS that you have to find every excuse to shave 15 mins. I understand it but there is a better way.
Sounds to me like it would take me less than 10 mins with a years worth of logs to find 5 things that would make some of you look like you cheat your logs on a daily basis to a jury.aiwiron, sazook and Ghost Ryder Thank this. -
Fuel i do log. I just dont log time fixing lights, adding oil, etc. And billerd i got a simple solution for my logs not matching fixing a light...its one of these "well you see that lady over there mr.dot?" "Yes." "Thats my mom, shes also the office worker, and i find the best way for her to lean about problems with trucks is to have her repair them."

You may could make a point that you know most drivers lie and say it took this long to do something but you know most really take longer. But you can't prove it. What other ways could you show drivers cheat logs? We need to know so we don't make mistakes and get caught.

My truck is run through the shop at home nearly every week. I've only had to fix two things since I started, both were burnt out lamps. Takes less than 2 minutes to pop out a sealed lamp and plug in the replacement you have in the sidebox. No need to "log" it.Billerd Thanks this.

Yea according to the law so in theory its illegal to not flat the 2 minute light fix. But then again speeding is against the law, so it talking on your cell phone, weaving all over the highway, running red lights, tail gating, etc. But i see cars do that all the time. So if all that flies why is it a big deal that I dont flat the 2 minutes to fix a light.

It's one thing if you have a receipt paper trail that shows that you replaced a light. If you pulled the lamp out of the sidebox and switched it, seriously, who would know the difference. Besides, the DOT isn't paying for my pens, lol!
