I think your forgetting how fast an aluminum roof would conduct that heat AWAY from the ice and dissapate it into the air.

It is a problem, but I'm not going to solve it every night by climbing up there, just aint no way!

Because falling down HURTS! If you are the one that gets up there on that wet slippery roof in the dark with the wind blowing out in the yard when no one else is around you wouldn't ask that question

Falling don't hurt. It's that sudden stop at the end that'll get ya everytime.

According to gooberment statistics, 85% of all bridges need rebuilt anyway. They will just have to taking raising them the required amount into consideration.

Had to have a TA clear the top of a trailer. Company said in no way was I to try and climb up to clear it off. Was 3200 lbs over . Onc cleared I was legal ! Was solid ice about 10 inches thick. Don't think one of the drive though machines would do any thing with that ? Snow would not been an issue but 4000 lb of ice ...

Such a system would need to be able to run off a 12v truck electrical system as finding 110 isn't always possible. A 3000watt system would draw 213 amps assuming the truck was running (14 volts) and the heater was 100% effecient. There is no way this idea is gonna work with the current electrical systems on trucks.
