I am currently in school living an hour south of Atlanta, had my mind set on TMC, but due to my zip code, I am out of the hiring zone. I have done more research and was looking at Maverick, but talked to a driver at a truck stop that runs for McElroy. He talked well for them. Sounds like McElroy will make more money, less miles but be home more. Maverick will make about the same but will see the country while running more miles and only home every now and then. Any suggestions? Am I missing a newbee company?

    Boyd Bros.
    System Transport
    Howard Transportation
    Western Express (flatbed division)
    Watkins & Shepard (flatbed division)

All these companies hire newbies even though their website may say experience required.

If it were me, my first choice would be Melton and second System. Both have APU's. System runs 48 states & Alaska. Drivers at both companies seem happy & say they make good money and good morale. Howard corporate office is in Ellisville, MS & has a good reputation.

How often are you home and can you bank your days off? What is expected take home for someone their first year? What is the best thing about Melton? What is the worst?

If you are east of I-35 you can request to be home every two weeks and if you're west of I-35 you can request to be home every three weeks. If you get home b4 or after you're requested home time it does not affect you're hone time. You get one day off per week your out, so if you're out for weeks you get for days off, if you only take three of those days off the forth day rolls over. Pay is different for every one depending on how miles you run on average we run around ten to thousand miles a month anything less then the driver is just messing around.they treat you like family not just a number.I really can't say anything about the worst part because the company has always done me and my wife right.any more questions feel free to .

Do you mainly run a certain area or are you all over the place?
