They wont let you in because of a crime involving violence or drugs ? I forget what that process is called but 15 years ago it cost 150 bucks just to apply for it, and there was no gurantee youd get approved, and there was no refund. SOrry I cant be of more hep than that, but that was the extent of my experience with it. I found out about the non refundable fee and told the lady in the office they can keep their country...lol

One needs to contact a Canadian Consulate and request an application for a "Minister's Permit." It is temporary permission to enter Canada. Usually costs about $200.00 nonrefundable. They usually expire at exit but arrangements can sometimes be made for multiple entry's and exits. It can take at least 120 days or up up to ten months to get approval after jumping through many hoops of documentation and records. This can be good for up to a year.

One can attempt to get an "Approval of Rehabilitation" which is a permanent solution. Costs about the same, but is more difficult to obtain (More hoops to jump through), but the reward is that it does not expire like the Minister's Permit does. Don't bother applying if it's been less than 5 years/or are currently charged with a crime.

And yes, it's a good idea to consult an immigration lawyer.

    Best regards

Or just don't bother going into Canada. If you urinated in public in 1979 they won't let you in. It's a freaking joke.

I just run them up to Michigan, swap with another driver and go on my merry way... they don't want me to drive a CMV in their country... I won't drive a CMV in their country... I am easy to get along with.
