Pay cash, otherwise it could come back at you in your home state with your tax return.

There are no state sales taxes in Oregon, there is a tire disposal fee for the old casings. I believe there is FET (Federal Excise Tax) on ALL tires, so while not tax free, you would pay fairly low taxes overall in Oregon.

Interstate carriers are exempt from sales tax on parts in Georgia, but must have a sales tax account with the DOR in order to get the exemption. Depending on where home is for you, that can be a big hassle. I'm sure many other states do the same.

Sometimes with taxing authorities, it pays to be the low blade of grass and just pay the sales tax if it's a relatively small one or two time deal in another state.

I am going to be purchasing two sets of drive tires, so it will not be a relatively small purchase unfortuantly. Michelin tires are not very cheap.

Mercer? Yes we get a discount on tires, the two sets I am getting are 11R22.5 for $4122.16 and 285/75/24.5 for $4255.76. Michelin XDN2 out the door, will mount these at our own shop at home.

IL is easy to get exemption. And sure Mercer has this established at most major shops in IL already.

    Talk to the tire shop.
Every place i have been has me sign a form with the carriers mc number and the sales tax goes away. Regardless of where i have been. Including IA.

    BigBadBill Thanks this.

Can anyone relate to this madness i have been through.?

Twenty years ago we went and got our ''DBA''.We were issues a Federal Id # through the Federal Government.I still use this number when doing my taxes and paying HUT to this day..This number was sent to many of us in the form of a ''card'' and we had it in our wallet. This number and card was ''golden''.No matter where we were in the USA,they honored this for TAX FREE..No issues at all.

Well some ''politician dirt ball'' along the way started to make things tough as of about 8 years ago or so.It seemed one by one other states did not accept this card from me on any purchase or work for the truck. One by one i was told NO WAY.That can only be used in NY.Then they wanted me to fill out the peice of paper and wait till corporate OK'D it.That could take 30-60 days..again last week in OHIO they did not honor it..

Up to date.I can only use this ''card'' in NY,my home state.I am told this over and over.So the card is worthless IMO unless in NY..The only deals i seem to get anymore is when using Landstars name on the BILL.And that is no guarentee.

In the end my card i carry with my FED # is only good for NY.This card at one time was good for everywhere. These days much of my work i get done is IN a NY shop so i can take advantage of the ''TAX FREE''..

Does anyone else know what i mean.?..I just think this ''new'' process sucks and i wish they honored my FED# everywhere like the old days...But i am told NO over and over state by state..
