Scaled at 82,000lbs, 33100 on drives and 37800 on tandems. Removed two pallets that weighed 2300lbs each from tail, what would you expect that to do to your numbers?

Your good or you can rescale just to make sure so you don't get a ticket

can't load that far back with that much weight in a 53'.

I tell them to stop at the 48' mark. can't run the tandems that far back on the east coast.

    in NC your allowed 38K

    mje Thanks this.

I thought it woukd be fine and stupidly didn't rescale. Turned out, according to DOT, 35200 on drives and 31700 on tandems. I was flabbergasted. And fined.

9 dollars could have prevented that ! oh well live and learn. I hope the tickets not too big.

$54 was ticket. Sometimes I rush to get going to much. I realize it and am working on it. Today I loaded 44000 and decide to scale, on the way to scale I get pulled over by DOT for random level 2, no issues. Scale it and of course, since I scaled it, it was perfect and as Murphy's Law dictates, every scale was closed when I went past. Like you said, live and learn. I was just shocked by the weight after taking off pallets, I would never have guessed it would have teetered the other way so drastically as I've done this before and didn't see these drastic changes. Maybe someone will learn from my mistake. Best I can hope for at this time.

When you've got a "mixed product load", anything can happen, irregardless of tandem location. But when loading on a 53' trailer and loading back past the 48 foot mark, all bets are off. I've had 1 stop loads of meat loaded to about the 47-48 foot line, tandems all the way forward as far as they'd go and still at 35,000 lb on the drives, and had to drive 25 miles 1 way to the first public scales to find out. Sad thing is, I knew from the tractor bags PSI gauge before I left the plant I was going to have problems but of course that doesn't mean anything to a shipper.

... And a guy can lose track of where to single out the pallets. People make mistakes, even well experienced loaders.

If you would have had a load gauge on the tractor suspension, you would probably have caught that. I no longer have a gauge, and not likely to have one again unless they start buying their own trucks.

You were playing teeter-totter. we haul heavy pallets 2800 per pallet, and 15 per load, in reefers for backhauls, you lose a little length from 48inches per pallet, but they load 3 singles and a double 3 times, the load ends up at 46 foot mark or a little better and the tandems 6 inches long from California is about a perfect balance.

Going any farther back with the last double gets you way long to scale it.

    mje and walstib Thank this.
