Step percentage is the same as flatbed or van percentage. It doesn't matter if you are renting the trailer from LS or if you own it outright.

No, it is much more complicated than that. A newer BCO will get 65% of the linehaul rate, plus 100% of the fuel surcharge, plus any accesorials, to the tractor. With his/her own van, flat, step, they will get 7% of the linehaul rate, plus any accessorials, to the trailer, whether they outright own it, or rent it from LS. This gives a total of 72%, of the linehaul, plus FSC, plus any accessorials, to the truck and trailer. My contract is much older and I get a higher percentage, of the linehaul rate, to my truck and trailer. Mine works out to 73.5% of the linehaul, plus FSC and any accessorials. Those with contracts, much older than mine, get a higher percentage, than I do. Specialized trailers, such as reefers and rgns, also get a higher percentage.

Those that pull company vans, do not get the trailer revenue, as the trailer is owned by LS and LS keeps that revenue.

Ok thank you, thats what I thought it was. The guy yesterday said it was 65% across the board unless you own the trailer. He said that those who rent a flat or step only get 65% and no more. He also tried telling me they dont rent out flats and steps anymore, they only offer it as a company trailer. He didnt really seem like he knew what he was talking about when it came to open deck.

Ive been talking to different companies about pulling step deck. The average revenue is all over the board. I realize there are many factors that go into rates, but what can a guy expect to earn per mile at LS?

There is no single answer to that, as everybody has their own number they will run for.
