RobF is right some companies pay u only once per 90 days as a contractor... They don't own the truck so they don't make it. Priority to pay.. There 100 other who fall for the false claims of 27 hour days with months and months of work. I've seen trucks sitting for weeks in the same spots... Key energy is only down to 2 8 hour shifts.. And there drivers say there lucky is they get more then 6 hours a day. And the crime. Some guy just killed another guy during an altercation in front of one of the trouble magnets up here.. AKA the williston strip clubs... They caught Him in billings today I believe... If u work ur ### off and stay away from the trouble u can do great up here with the right job... Vandals cut 17,000 worth of tires at a local car dealership over the weekend...So if u do something stupid hre u can bet that Williams County Corrections center is where u will be spending your time

I'm on a bus riding out of williston to Sioux Falls sd. To pick my new car up. Amtrack was full... 95% of the guys on this bus are leaving Williston cause they couldn't get a job... Came here with no money or criminal records. A few lost there job due to drinking and being stupid....
Make sure u got ur #### together before u come up here. A news broadcast is Not doing research....most are younger kids with Salvation Army vouchers cause they got no money..who can't pass a drug test or fail a background check or did something stupid and went to jail and lost there jobs...Last edited by a moderator: Mar 19, 2013

4 yrs ago the Bakken was a boom without people, it was great until the end of 2011, last year was the the start of the boom with people. In my area we went from 9 rig moving to 50 odd rig moving companies. Now I suspect there is about to be a property bubble, with the hundreds of new unsold homes from Williston to Dickinson. The area is still busy and pay is good if your working but it's not 2011 anymore

I left ND a year ago , hauled water and sand , what I've read on here is pretty accurate .
Some advice if you are thinking about work in ND
Dont go out without having been hired , with a written job offer !
Dont go out without housing !
Dont go out without experience driving in all weather conditions on and off road ! If you cant drive a truck in your sleep stay home.
If you get on with MBI or PF you will ride with a trainer, they don't mind training you to do the oil field specific part of the job , but get PO'd if you don't know how to drive !!!
Dont expect to get the hours they promise you on the phone, figure everything on the low side, the location I worked at was busy, I worked 65 to 70 hours a week but some of the guys I went through orientation with went to different locations and worked only 35 to 60 hours a week.
Stay away from Williston, if you live at a company man camp full of CDL drivers that can get a Haz Mat endorsement you are not dealing with all the felons and trouble you have around williston.
Make sure company supplies PPE !sexystuff911 Thanks this. -
Don come to tioga whatever you do. Dispach sucks they only give out good loads to certain goup of drivers the rest get screwd. Rent is $1100 a month on single room and $1375 on 2 room apt. No cable, internet. Have to get that on your own and you have to pay for electric. Tioga is slow you make average $21 an hour when there is work. Otherwise you get sent home no pay.

$21 is a joke up there and not enough money for that area. Glad things didn't work out for me to go that way, 1 year ago.

RUMOR CONTROL...Powerfuels is advertising on the radio for every type of driving, operating and ruffneck job. I know of some drivers their that are very happy and have worked their way into very good pay. Here's a flash- Employers weed out the quitters by making them hang in there and earn the gravy. They also will never admitt what the top pay is...because there isn't. As the expansion kicks in , the sky is the limit. I certainly sympathize with entry level oil patch candidates. The only advise I have is to hang in there and keep your eyes open. If you can drive, and especially are former military, I would look into Cascade Tanks in Ross. They have company drivers and lots of owner operators that are always looking for water truck drivers. Management sucks and they play favorites. But you can do well there, just stay under the radar. There are several mother companys that need drivers for their winch, water and/or gravel trucks in and around Stanley. A month ago there wasn't much happening. Much different now. Winter is still kicking our ##### but not for much longer.
Good luck and don't give up. There are some good niches for the right people. ANd it will only get better until next winter knocks on the door. Gunner
This time of year it looks like every RV park up here has vacancys. I just relocated to Tioga and had my choice of locations at 900/mo. -
If anyone is with plains can you tell me about them in north dakota? Pay...housing....thanks?

Quite a few more just left. Only 9 I think are night drivers. This district will get shut down if this keeps up. New drivers are send here to replace them. They are sent here to fail. They also will leave. Bob is very incompetent, worst liar, autistic at times. Powerfuels is a great company, but stay away from tioga! Stay in watford that's where all the action is, there's guys making $700-$1000 a day but seldom. Tioga is isolated from civilization. Bob is incoherent. Sometimes I think he is durdurdur. what i say is 100% accurate because i work here and looking elsewhere. There is alot of negativity here. Drivers are very unhappy, alot of bad vibe. Powerfuels seems to be training drivers to go and work for other company. This is not a rumor or a discruntal employee, just want to give heads up to the new drivers. This company is great. Wish I stayed in watford. Goodluck and stay safe. Winters over come up and make money. Nd newbie you speak the truth.
