Yesterday I was at home doing what I love, spending time with my three little girls on are side by side. I live on a dirt road off of hwy 66 in florida. So we have lots of fruit trucks this time of year we have to ride down in the ditch for a few hunderd feet to get to the path to the mud hole. So there we are when a mt fruit hauler comes by his wheel bearings failed on the trailer the dual wheels come off at 60 mph hit the ditch fly 3 or 4 feet in front of us! I could feel the wind from them on my face. The weels smached into a old mt trailer home blasted all the way though it!
I feel lucky to still be hear I know it would have killed all of us. So pls remember to check out everything before hittin the road.
Just thought I would share.

WOW!!! That must have been scary. Good thing we arent reading about this somewhere.....
stabob Thanks this. -
That happened at swift while I was in the shop there. We had an otr driver come in and drop his trailer missing the right rear wheel/hub assembly and brake drum. He said he didn't even know it was gone when we cornered him about it. About 2 hours later a farmer rolled up with the whole assembly on the back of his pickup and said it had gone through his barn the out into a field smashing a bunch of corn before it finally stopped.

Glad to read you and your daughters are ok.
Question. did the driver even stop or keep going.
Oh who had to put on clean underwear, you or the kids?truckon Thanks this. -
no the driver stoped real nice dude. funny thing is this has happend to me in the past and I never knew I lost it till I stoped. I say nice guy cuz he hit the horn for my kids, they love the get the trucks to honk! Fhp came out did not ticket him wich I was suprized cuz if that were me I would have been nailed to the wall.

I can remember two stories of trucks losing a set and killing someone. The last one was on the PA Turnpike. I never heard if they found that one. That was a year or two ago.
Them Florida fruit trucks are notorious for lack of maintenance and overweight.
If it was me I would of gave that farmer an earful. Stuff like that doesn't happen unless you neglect your equipment and don't do your PMs like you are suppose to. Even a driver can catch it because the back seal will start leaking prior to total failure. The wheel will even be hotter than the rest. -
can't you get manslaughter charges for this?

My Uncle lost a set of duals and killed a family in a ford pinto. I have seen the pic's not good at all. That's a lot of weight going really fast when they come off as it is usually at hiway speed. Nice to know everyone is ok !
