I guess maybe I'll throw some fuel on the fire here.
Let's not paint the whole canvas with one color gang. I'm an 'Eastener' who has worked out west. I have specialty hauling experience as well as speciallty 'tickets'. I have been flown, fed, and housed, to work certain jobs in the past. Granted, not everyone has the benifits of my contacts or what I have done.
I DO AGREE that if you are planning on making the patch your career, then you should make the patch your home. Work hard there, play hard there. Don't do the drugs and alcohol thing ..... then retire where you want ..... be it the East coast, Aruba, or whatever.
I'm saying this because next year I might fly back out for the freeze up. 2 wks in 2 out ..... or I might stay for the whole freeze and work my 70 hard and take off 36 in a continuos cycle. This year I stayed 'home' to drive a plow and just about went out of my mind.
To the Easteners ........ the western patch is not the end all / be all ......... there are mines in Labrador and Northern Que .... there is Muskrat Falls ..... There are bulk haulers in Northern Ont looking for b-train chip drivers and round wood drivers ........ And wether you like Que or not ...... $ is $ ..... there are ice road jobs hauling from south to north in Quebec advertised every year ......
Baker Hughes and Shlumberger (to name a few) have offices in Dartmouth, NS ...... These are 'patch' companies .....

Don't harp on the employees lucky enough to get paid flights/food if you can get a deal like that why not take it, I still live in N.S. but I own/operate a truck in Ab. pay Ab. taxes and buy food, fuel and everything else to go along with working out here. The job market in N.S. sucks, the only economy we have is Alberta $ being spent 'back home'
Speedloader and Dalton09 Thank this. -
I agree with CD here - if you don't take it someone else will. Period. AND by the sounds of the above, CD IS providing TAX $ to the Alberta coffers ...............
BTW CD - I'm in NS as well. Have you been advertising on Kijijij lately ? Your avatar looks like round wood. You in Fall River area ? Send me a PM.

CD, there's a guy from PEI (Mike Duffy) that's pulling the same stunt as you are. IF you LIVE in NS, then that's what your Tax return should say, not Alberta. You are "cheating" NS out of their taxes yet you are partaking in use of their roads, schools, etc etc etc. Mike Duffy tried to make it look like he lived in PEI to screw the rest off Canadians by getting an "away from home" allowance as a Senator in Ottawa. The only reason CD is filing as an Albertan is because Alberta tax rates are lower and he's leaving other Nova Scotians to pay his way in that Province. If you don't believe me, call Revenue Canada. (Not H&R Block)oilfield and Speedloader Thank this.

That's a good point PB - what's the story CD ? You're pr'bly working more then 1 driver in that truck ? Does it have an address in AB ? How does that work ?
I'm not tryin' to stir the pot so to speak ..... I'm jes tryin to see how everyone is gettin' it done. Benifit of the doubt to CD - maybe the truck is payin taxes in AB and the owner is payin taxes in NS ...... ?
As far as the senate goes .......... I'm not even touchin that without takin my meds first !!!!!!!! -
If CD does'nt have the truck under a Corporate name then he declares the income and expenses. If he is incorporated than he has to be registered to conduct business in the Province of Alberta, Even if his company was registered in NS he has to register as an Extra-Provincial corporation in AB.

agreed ......

I don't see the problem with what he's doing. Paying "taxes" in both provinces from the looks of it to me! Alberta income taxes and fuel taxes and sales tax, while paying gas taxes, sales taxes, property taxes back East. Looks like a win-win for everyone to me!!! Looks like plenty of taxes to go around!!!Chain Drive Thanks this.

"because its people like you who arent smart enough to understand the question i asked"
Dalton09,personal attacks will only get you hurt, unless you're hiding behind a computer. Drop the name calling please! -
To be honest my 'business' is none of your business, but since everyone seems to know, my company is registered in Alberta, the truck is registered in Alberta, all corporate taxes are Alberta, all my work is in Alberta, I don't have any other drivers, and yes I use the roads and schools in Nova Scotia. When I am home I buy local fuel (fuel tax pays for road maintenance) I also pay myself as a driver, and since I live in Nova Scotia I pay N.S. income tax so I'm pretty sure some of that covers my sons education. Long story short we all need to work, and make money it's not my fault I have to go out of province to make a living, say what you want I'm working, and supporting my family and to me that's all that matters.
P.S. no 'stunts' I don't claim the living allowance (witch I do qualify for according to H&R Block as I also pay rent in Alberta)
