For the first year or two it would be a good idea to drive a manual, then switch. I've driven both, and I can outshift the computer anyday. But truthfully, I like the Allison automatics the best ( full hydraulic unit with a torque convertor ).....they shift so fast and smooth it's ridiculous.

Thats what the military uses on almost all of their heavy equipment. Some manuals still left around but most are all autos now. All Allison transmissions. We ran them through combat and in the worst environmental conditions under heavy loads and never had problems. No slipping in and out of gear at random times, no hunting for a gear, no slamming your face into the steering wheel when it decides that 2 low is the right gear for a rolling acceleration, and no stupid beeping about fault codes all the time. Smooth shifts as well. Just keep the fluid topped off and you are good to go.

Personally, I prefer manuals though. But to each their own.

I only know one driver that actually likes an automatic. He got his left leg amputated below the knee in a farming accident, and that was the only way he could get a waiver to keep driving.

    Just sayin'.

I ran for hogan a few months they do automatics. the volvo i drove had no power and if you set the cruise you ended up around 30 mph on I-70 through mo if the load was around 25 or higher. I admit i did almost fall out of the seat one time trying to find the stick to shift. i was tempted to put a plunger there to grab something even if a fake. Hogan treated me well and they do have teams. but I was told the team dispatcher is a jerk.
    Good luck
    I prefer the shifters

Man, I sure hate that rotary dial phones were replaced by touch tone. I mean I can outdial a touch tone any day of the week. However, I sure like my smart phone with voice recognition dialing now.

You guys might try PAM Transport out of Tontitown, AR. They run majority automatics and are almost exclusively a team company. They also train and hire mostly newbies so it might be a good fit.
