Trainers have to stop running like a team when they're supposed to be training. Training means being in the passenger seat and actively assisting and teaching the new Trucker. Sleeping in the bunk doesn't qualify!

first time posting here. yes im new to driving but I catch on quickly. I have asked questions so much and bug my dms and trainers people look at me weird. no question is stupid. granted I learn more everyday im on the road. I just got accepted to go to class to be a trainer. my look on it is what ever it takes to help the student. I may tweek on various students but a min 1 week of student driving as a solo while im in passanger seat answering any questions. I don't ever want to be tired while student is driving. the student will do everything from figuring fuel to trip planning to pre and post trip. my trainer didn't show me anything I backed 2 times. but at the same time I understand the insentive of being a trainer is the money but you can find a balance money isn't everything to me. I rather take my time training someone and be proud than ummm hay your trainee just jackknifed. I took what I didn't like about my training and made it to where I hope I pass everything positive to my trainees. we all learn somewhere and pass info on its up to each person to take from it what they wish. a trainee that doesn't take it seriously will not last long with me. joke around goof off on down time unwind but not while learning stuff.

oh and to be clear experience doesn't always equal a better trainer/teacher. I have talked to a ton of drivers/teachers the more time they have doing this its there way or nothing. and they wouldn't be good and training anyone in my opinion. you have to have a open mind. it all depends on the mentality of each person.
Lady K Thanks this. -
I used to train the new guys at my last job, and my approach was different. I had been doing my job for years and had a great system down for delivering great results in a time effective manner, so why would I not make everyone do it my way? I told all the new guys you will develop your own way of doing this and find what works best for you, but before you can do that you have to learn my way. Once you prove you are competent and understand not only how to do this but also why it is done this way then you can make your own tweaks to the system. The fact of the matter is most people never progressed from repeating steps to truly understanding. Those that did made adjustments to fit their style and worked out great, those that didn't made adjustments to make the job easier that either produced subpar results or resulted in much time being wasted. I would go back and show them my way again and explain many ways why it's done this way and what is important that can't be changed.
None of my trainees ever made irreversible mistakes, but when you are driving 40t on a tight schedule there are many things that can't be undone. Giving someone free reign from day one is a recipe for disaster. Much better to establish the right way to do things, make them understand why it's that way, and then allow them to change things that are not vital to suit their method. -

First time I've seen a Central on this page... -
I can't tell what's going on in that picture. I guess he dropped his tandems off the pave? If it was level I dont think he would've hit the pole, just smashed some grass.

oh don't get me wrong not giving free reign will be explaining why things are certain ways. but with guidance. it is a different approach with each trainee ask how they learn watch. am I going to burn 20-20 gallons of fuel driving around before even hooking to a load yes I am I will make that up down the road. I see so many trainers ok lets go and not even talk to the trainee. if I ever get a trainee that says well what about this way I will say ok go ahead then correct when and if there wrong and say this is why this way. I love debate I can see both sides to anything good bad ect.

Yep... Cut it a bit to short on that turn... It's the first Central (maybe second) I've seen on that page though... So I guess that's a good thing??

Yeah, its easy to stay under the radar when you have the mega carriers like swift, cre, and prime flooding the streets with trucks. It's not like we dont have new upgrades getting preventables every day. Just glad no one was filming when I snagged that railwayLady K Thanks this.
