BQE is not a good advice for a first timer !!! Should the driver forget to follow directions near the battery tunnel he/she will find a hellish situation. Just my opinion.

Best advice yet!

I would agree with union man too.
Just be careful of one thing too ... Traffic can go from away fast, to a STOP! So you must be on your best behavior - no distractions!blazer1 Thanks this. -
I haven't dropped in the city in years but I agree with Union Man. He lives in the Bronx so he knows his way around. Local guys are usually the best people to ask.

Cash for 5 axle crossing the Hudson from New Jersey is $75 for any of the three that cross onto Staten Island, we don't have any transponders, it is company policy that makes no sense to me.
If you come back out on 278 and cross the Sound on the Verrazano, that bridge is only tolled outbound one way at $80 for 5 axles, the other 3 on expressways, RFK, Whitestone, and Throgs Neck are tolled both ways at $40 for 5 axles.
Cars pay $15 for the tolled Verrazano crossing and $7.50 for those other 3 Long Island Sound bridges, I'm not really sure what they pay to cross the Hudson from New Jersey.
The Tappan Zee from the north and west is/was less costly and the quickest way to White Plains from New Jersey while avoiding most of the 5 boroughs.
I don't get there much, and we usually go to the northwest tip of Brooklyn, so it is 278 and the Verrazano for us most of the time. -
Once you finish this trip you can say you are a real professinal driver! If you havent driven in nyc then you are semi professional !!!
-
Pass on the trip...Have a nice Easter !
Start out again on Monday. -
Thanks
I took the load as there wasn't really anything else to brag about near Tulsa and this will get me by the house for a day. I'm going for a Monday delivery maybe Saturday if the place in Holbrook on Long Island can unload me :crossesfingers: I'll make a special trip just for them if the others are closed
If I unload in White Plains first, it looks like that would be easier because I can hit them first at the time I want as opposed to possibly being held up in NJ. Then off to Long Island, then the NJ delivery last.
Doing it this was way, I can use I80 as opposed to The PA Turnpike or running through Maryland.
Looks like the closest service plazas to White Plains is the Vince Lombardi and Brookdale just South of Clifton. There's also the T/A on I80 about 90 miles away which won't make me run toll roads.
I have easy delivery times. I'll plan for the worst and assume it will take me all day to get these three stops off of my trailer. Looks like I'm going to earn my $2.01 a mile on this one. It was routed going through the PA Turnpike. Next time I'm going to route it first, then make the agent a counter offer

if you can find a place to park go into the city for a day, totally awsome, took a wide load there and had to sit on it for a few days at the goethals bridge and went into the city both days awsome experience

if you hit hainesport first drop , just stay at the t/a in paulsboro ,nj on 295 exit 18 . i wouldnt count on anyone unloading you on easter weekend. it just aint gonna happen , if thats the case, i would do hainesport in the am first, then run the route like you were told 287 across the tappan zee hit white plain late am, and hit holbrook early afternoon.
and coming out off long island , i would come back across throgs neck, and back across the gw , no toll southbound and go out to 287
going out to the holbrook is a piece on cake on the LIE you have no reason whatsoever to hit the bqe , goethals or verrazano on this run. and even if you go to holbrook first , come in on 80 to 287 across the zee , throgs neck and the 495 LIE.
but if ya go home, going to 80 adds some miles to that baby.
union man is dead on
