No, he wasn't in an 8 pack, he wanted one, but they wouldn't give him one. He kept asking and they said as soon as we get one in you can have it, we'll send you to Michigan to pick it up, but they never seemed to get one for him.

You're one of the lucky ones who can run 2 trips a day. Most of his trips were out of Jersey to CT, or NY by where we live (outside of Albany). He would then usually have to deadhead 2 1/2 hours back to Jersey to get his next trip. We live right by the CSX rail yard in Selkirk, so it's much better for him. He's actually thinking of buying a car carrier and doing the owner/operator gig with Allied out of RI.

    Hello,
I was just hired by PMTG-Precision Motor Transport Group and I start training with them on 01/07/08 of this year. Thanks for some info on this company from a drivers wifes perspective. I would love to ask you somemore questions about this company. Like can you really make the type of money their ads claim you can?? Does your husband make that type of money being OTR for them or is that type of money reserved for their regional and city drivers only? They claim that their average drivers make over 70,000 a year. Has your huband been able to pull in that type of money or is their claim false? I know that they pay percentage of load 20-22% but how much are the loads? You said that your husband can deliver an average of 3 loads a week. What are the averages of pay for those types of runs? Any information could help me. Thanks. Autumn

My husband is OTR, since we live in MI.....the big bucks are for the guys/gals that run short hoppers on the east coast, like 20 cars a day.....some of them do it everyday....so yes the big money is there it just depends on what division your in.

Being OTR we see about 850.00 a week hit the bank, which is pretty decent after insurance, taxes etc, oh of course the cash advance for the week....LOL.

PMTG is pretty decent overall.....just dont get hung up on the hometime, sometimes your home a day later or even earlier than expected. Thats not a huge deal for us, as hubby says 2 days is 2 days BUT some of the drivers get really ticked off if they arent home on the day they think they should be.

Good luck with them, give yourself plenty of time to learn the ropes and by all means if your at a port and have a question dont be afraid to ask one of the other drivers, they are a pretty friendly bunch and will help ya out.

I wouldn't have minded running a 3 car hauler off the back of my truck...maybe then I could have used my trailer to tow my race car on my days off. :biggrin_25524:

    Autumn,
Good luck with orientation and training. I see that you live in Central Pa. You shouldn't have a problem with home time and you can probably get some decent drive bys if needed. Just don't hang around the house on a drive-by when you should be on your way to Chicago. You can't make any money sitting in front of the fireplace. This time of year is slow so you will have plenty of time to learn. You aren't missing any money by taking your time right now. I am a short-hopper, or regional driver and usually deliver 65-75 cars weekly. I delivered around 3,000 cars in 2007. You can make good money running OTR just like luvmyhubby said. I know her hubby and he does OK for himself. Just keep an open mind and be patient!!! The money is there, you have to find out what way is best for you and go out there and get it!! I'm guessing you are probably on your way back from Greer, hopefully training went well and I'll see ya out here. I actually got an entire weekend off since we are so slow right now. I am happy to have the break and I know it will be short lived so I need to make sure I take advantage of it.

I wasn't in West Chester the other day. This time of year they don't do a lot of hiring and also some of the people in recruiting take vacations and such this time of year. This is our slowest time of the year, so we need to take advantage of the break in the action. I only delivered 4 loads this week and have the weekend off if that tells ya anything.

My husband has an interview with Pilot out of Brighton MI today, he has also put his app into PMTG, both look very tempting but one will be out 3 weeks, other 2 wks. However, if the money can be made in this poor economic state we really can use it. Is there any security in the car hauling industry and does anyone have any info on Pilot? Lots of questions so any help would be great. My husband also wanted to know about the loading/unloading of the cars and how hard physically it is since he has a slight limp. He is a hard worker and will not stop until he is forced to so that is not an issue, just was concerned about crawling around on the rigs. Thank you for your time, oh, we are close to the Okemos MI and so what are the chances of making money from that location, home time, runs, etc. Sorry for all the questions, he has always ran reefer or dry van, auto is totally new to us.
