I just leased onto a primary steel hauling carrier and was curious, do alot of places ship Shotgun or Suicide Coils?? The Suicide securement process isn't as bad as the Shotgun so I would prefer as many Suicide Coils as possible, just was curious.... Also any tips would be hopeful, I'm a "Newbie Flatbedder"

Alot of places will give you the option, as long as the consignee does not require it a certain way due to their crane equipment to unload you. I only do coils, PM me if ya have any specific questions.

Given the choice, I haul my coils suicide. How it's loaded depends on the shipper/receivers equipment that they use to load or unload.

I haul into and out of alot of Steel Mills and I haul 90% coils. It depends on which mills you go to as you could be hauling bars, rods, sheeting and ect but most of my steel is coils. I personally prefer to load suicide as it is easier to secure and my chains and binders are pulled straight down to the trailer. Shotguns are not bad especially with a reitnour and the J-hooks.

I vividly remember hauling my first coil. I bet I stopped and checked it 50 times in that 600 mile haul. Never wanted to do it again. Now, it's all I do and I love it.

I pulled Coils for CRST Malone and the one thing that i took very serious from the training was what the trainer told us? and that was if it's Suicide, shotgun, or eye's to the sky? if the book says 5 chains? add two more for safety. And thats what i did when i was pulling that as a Coil newbie. Be very careful on tight curves.

We regularly haul coils loaded shotgun, the customer wants them that way. We will X-out the chains and put a couple straps on the three coils then tarp. Illinois now requires that you horse shoe the chains, it doesn't seem right to myself. Now with the weather getting nicer I'll have to try it their way soon, but I'm skeptical.

I have only hauled 1 coil, and am going to go pick up some racks and lumber tomorrow. I get offered a lot of coils for descent prices, but never had the want to mess with them.

from a Box driver!! WHAT? I'm glad you guys no what all this is, I have no desire to be climbing all over my trailer to sinch something down. In a van if it falls over oppps!. I know that is a bad attitude but it isn't going anywhere...
