Why? I'm sorry, but NOVA is the pits! It's too crowded and many are rude. If you're willing to relocate out of GA for tank and/or dump hauling, try West Virginia & Kentucky. I have several extended family members who work in the coal, oil and/or heavy highway haul industries up there.

Some companies to look into would be Vecellio & Grogan in Beckley, WV; Dana Companies in Nitro, WV, and Devon Energy (fka Penzoil).

I wish you and your lady the best of luck! NOVA is their own breed - I think most Virginian's consider NOVA as part of DC and not Virginia.

Nova is not Virginia at all, way over priced and taxed to death, emission checks every two years on vehicles and vehicle property taxes are sky high. Oh and if you do not pay your taxes on time they will void your DL for sure.

Stay away from the beltway area if you can, local hourly jobs are possible, 19.00 is average starting pay.

Could be worse, almost my entire family lives in the D.C. suburbs of Maryland. Ugh..

I don't know how it is now but back in the late 80's it was the only place I've ever been to where the cost of living did not match the wages. At times I lived on both coasts but in southern MD I was stationed at Indian Head and the rent was outrages compared to what workers made hourly. I guess they expected every one to work in D.C. and make the money there and live in the outskirts. I would never work or live anywhere around D.C. My opinion.

It's worse now..... You couldn't pay me enough to live, work and/or drive in that area. Nope! :biggrin_25513: I don't have enough Valium!

That's insane. I talked with a fuel hauler back then and he told me he was making a little over $10 an hour. No thanks. So I moved to Las Vegas where the opposite was happening. I got high wages with the cost of living way down. Of course it's not like that now but back then the town was the fastest growing town in the country.
