Oh yeah you're absolutely right, I was referring to the fact that if you're out of driving hours, and still conducting business, then it doesn't matter if fudging your paper logs would've let you cheat while elogs won't, you're still driving illegally.

And yeah, the line 5 provision would come in handy sometimes, but if its against company policy, then there's not much you can do really. But you're right about it not being illegal.

Like a couple other guys said, the best way to prevent that problem is to arrive at your delivery early enough to have time left over to drive home. There will be times that you'll run out of time either way, but that's just the way it goes.

Its all in trip planning. If I am going to be out of hours before being unloaded, Ill work with them to have load relayed to another driver to deliver. Happens all the time no matter the company.

If you use line 5 to drive home from a delivery, running out of hours doesn't matter. It's a job, not a prison cell.

Well, you're mostly right. We run E-Logs and we don't have the option to run Line 5, it is not permitted under any circumstances under company policy. A lot of companies are like that, so it may not be an option for many.

I just make sure I run hard when I'm on my way home, keep that left door closed, and make sure I have time left to get home after delivering. If I absolutely don't have time left, I have slept in the truck less than 10 miles from my house - it's just the way it is sometimes.

Seems like they need to start a pea and moan section on here, its all you see anymore. Like another driver said like it or not e-logs are gonna be required. And seeing how another driver was over his hours yesterday when he hit a car stopped at a light and killed two people its only going to make it easier for them to do it. I don't even have 12 hrs on my 70 but im going to go drop this load tomorrow, grab the next one and keep on trucking. Been out here a little over nine years and have never had to take a reset. Seems there's too many drivers out here today that need to be babysat by the desk jockeys and the one day that have to manage themselves they come on here crying about how bad this lifestyle is.

i would bet money trucking is not as hard as my current job(meat packing plant) you come out like zombie, and the next day you dont want to wake up.

there is no other good job out there that pays us young guys good without a college degree.. plus the bad economy is not helping everyone wants to pay 8$ an hour.

i mean i can go into the oilfield... or a trade... but idk my father was a trucker i guess its in the blood.

Don't think a college degree gets you a job. That's where I'm sitting right now. In the hole 40 grand for a piece of paper and a garbage resume.

Even if you're lucky enough to find a job related to your study field out of college, you won't see a salary anywhere near 6 figures. The only people who get paid close to that after school are doctors and lawyers. College is not a jet out of jail free card.

    *something I just thought of*

Don't tell me that college students average XXX more in a lifetime than non college grads. Those statistics assume that the non college grad will be working minimum wage jobs their entire lives.
