Run, (don't walk) away, please!
123456 Thanks this. -
Tell me more. Did you run local or overnight. What's the pay scale like? Why did you leave?
-
I was a road driver, I-20 dedicated. I was home most nights though. The pay scale was around $1.40 to $1.50 empty and loaded at the time. I left because of the horrible communication and just plain uncoordinated dispatchers and load planners. They would do things like dispatch three trucks to pickup the same load, and whoever gets there first, gets the load. I would spend all night running around the Atlanta area looking for an empty trailor, and not get paid a dime for it. Dispatcher act like it's not their problem, would only give you different places to check for an empty. (They really did'nt have a clue.) Settlement pay was on Monday, may not be a problem for you, but I hated that. They broker out more of the HUB loads to other companies instead of loading Comtrak trucks? Scott King was the manager then, and he was a terrible manager in my opinion. Last I heard, he got fired.

I guess every company has pro and cons but i have talked to some guys who love it there.
-
That's true. I think it was the manager at the time. Are you going to go local?
-
Well i currently live in Dalton so I guess i would run out of Chatt. But i'm more interested in moving to atl area and running local.
-
I've heard nothing but good things about the other terminals, Savannah and Chattanooga. Pulling the 53' Hub boxes out of Austell didn't work for me. Most of the local guys out of Austell were happier than the road guys. They paid out a $3,000 sign on bonus at that time also.
-
Give me a tip. Lets say i worked out of Austell. What would be an ideal place to live to be close to yard?(assuming that leaving your truck at the yard is ok. And, would it be smarter to live closer to one of the ns rails? And would I get a sign on bonus if i get a truck through them?
-
Austell, Lithia Springs, or Douglasville will be closest to the yard. When I was there they allowed truck parking on the yard. Both of the NS rail yards that comtrak pull from are 14 miles apart, the one in Austell and the other one in Atlanta.
