I am a new member here and I like the website. Thank you for having it. I have 23 yrs safe driving and just returned to OTR from local ( I bounce to and from when I get burned out of one of them I guess).
I have some friends that hired onto New Century LTL Division and were making big $$$. Now they are running their eyeballs out and have alot of stops. I should have went there. But overall I am glad I am out of that company altogether.
I talked to them and the recruiter (I should have known better) talked me into going to the truckload side(formerly Rude Carriers). He promised SE Region, only seeing NE when I went to the terminal. He promised 3000-3500 miles a week, and being home every weekend if I wanted.
They have very good equipment for sure. I love the Auto shifts, but did not like the Super Single tires.
I stayed a 6 weeks...that is all I could stand. I averaged 1200-1800 miles per week. Do the math and that is not enough to feed a family. I stayed plenty busy....running northeast...and all short. I had 2 runs in 6 weeks over 500 miles. Most runs were 200-300 mile range. Alot were under 100 miles.
Their LTL side will take truckload runs, usually the best ones and leave the truckload guys hanging. Truckload and Western Express exists only to feed the LTL side. The LTL drivers make out good, the others get whats left.
Now, if a LTL driver takes a truckload run, he makes LTL pay (10 cpm more and $5 more per stop). If a truckload driver takes a LTL run, he makes his usual pay. Go figure. Also, hope you like running NYC. I told them in the beginning I do not.....not a problem. Then they booked me one one. There were 2 loads available. The CT load was longer, so an LTL driver got it. I got stuck with the NYC load that delivered 48 hrs later although it was not more than a 500 mile run. I refused it. Needless to say that was the final straw with me. I took the load to the terminal and cleaned out my truck.
New Century...LTL side very good money...truckload side....very little money and several drivers quitting weekly.

Tell me more about their LTL side. What kind of freight do they get? Do they have to deal with inside and residential deliveries?
-
I have not heard about inside deliveries or residential. I am sure they probably get a residential once in ahile. nature of the beast with so many home based businesses. Been there done that. The LTL side gets pretty much whatever will fit in the trailer. They have dry vans, reefers, heated vans, and liftgates. The drivers make ###### good $$ on the LTL side, but you will work your rear end off. They are based about 80 miles or so from you.
If you are interested in them....write down every thing they say and every stop with the pro numbers, trip numbers and manifest numbers associated with them. Good luck. -
Yes there is no point being in truck ld. The rude drivers will get the gravy runs, Harry promised that to them when he bought em. You must live pretty far away from there west va yrd, to get decent miles, but once u bring the freight inn, you will be triangled in the NE. for a week. There LTL has the favorites game going on, when Harry sold Jevic half of the drivers there went to New Century, so those drivers will get the good lds, even trk ld. When i had left trk ld. they had laid off 2 office people, one was the bookkeeper 4 payroll, there so called term mang. was doing payroll and there were alot of us with shortages do to him being inexperienced with payroll. I would stay away from trk ld. And apply to LTL side, but you need to be a worker and on top of your game and know cities well.. But you will have to prove yourself first, Oh and one more important rule to remember, they will own you! Theres a price on that $$$
-
And if this helps you, the term mang. that was @ trk ld. in martinsburg, wv. Was a planner prior to his term mang. and hear say is he was working 4 National Freight prior and took sum others from there 2 New Century...

I have driven for New century, your right the pay is good, but the downfall is they expect you to run ILLEGAL and if you don`t and refuse they send you home or even fire you,I can speak from experience,I used to run my ### off with them,Being an experienced LTL driver....I loved it,Till 1 day in May 05,I had left jersey with a load going to upstate Ny,after working 10 hours local, not even logged my full break and was told to take the load or be fired,I did so.slept for 4-5 hours, power napped all the way upto Ny state, power napped again at rest area, left their and somehow ending up in a ditch, rolled over, totalled the truck and trailer, destroyed the freight......As soon As I was released from workmens comp,I was FIRED....which was esxpected...The moral of the story,Yeah i made good money, but was it all worth it....for me looking back Nope,i should`ve cleaned out the truck and went home,Lesson learned for me,next time "Just say NO" But I`m ok now, driving local, kind of missing the road in a way, been driving 17-18 years, regardless of my accident,I still love trucking

It's funny because i appled to NCent back in april and was rejected because i had "too many jobs." This, after talking to the recruiter who know my job history. i believe his name was/is charlie.
Anyways, if Ncent LTL is anything like Jevic (i was with them briefly), then yes, the money is there but when will you sleep?
So, with that thought in mind, yes you can make good loot with Jevic or new century LTL. -
You know that's not legal
. They can't fire you for refusing a load due to hours of service.
I'm applying to them myself now, but I appreciate knowing how hard they are -
i live 2 mins away from the new century yard, and ive noticed over in the past couple months they are calling it E-Pak??? whats that? same trucks, just instead of NC it says E-Pak...
-
I have to wonder if it's the practice of some shady employers to change the name so that naive prospects won't notice?
As the old saying goes, "Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
