Ask around and make a short list of DMs who get good recommendations from drivers you ask. Develop a reputation for on-time delivery and no whining. Then contact the prospective DM privately and have a chat about what you want and whether they can provide it. If they can, and agree to take you onto their fleet, the new DM will handle the transition from the old DM. You don't even have to talk to the old DM if you don't want to. My trainer went through 5 DMs, and I went through 3 so far. A good DM will give you all the miles you want and hometime you deserve, and no payroll issues. Personalities matter, it's kinda like dating - there are lots to choose from. Choose wisely and prosper.

The reason they can't give you an exact amount (so we've been told) is the price/discount depends on how many tire are sold in that month... More tires, more discount... As far as we have been able to tell - the 'National Account' does save you $$, but they take that $$ out of your maintenance account. That is only one of two reasons we have ANY money in Central's maintenance account.

My husband started out with one... Total oil and water mix... Then when I got out on the road with him, we went with the DM I had with my trainer. We really liked her, but we didn't get the miles. So we went dedicated. At first it was OK, but the straw that broke us was when we were set up on a load, picked it up, THEN was told we had no appointments for the four drops!!! THEN our DM was off for the weekend, leaving us hanging!! Called O/O and asked how we turn the truck in... They wanted to know why, we told them, 30 minutes later we get a call about this 'new fleet'. Totally love the loop we at on now, and our DM on this loop.Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

Im actually pretty happy with my current DM, even though my trainer said he was one I don't want to get. He does have a big fleet but I'm also not one to talk to the DM unless I need to. The very first run I had I got irritated with him, but after that the few issues that have come up have worked out well. My home time last month I ended up rolling in to Fontana on Wednesday, wanted to go home Friday night to get the weekend and girlfriends days off. Caught up to my DM outside and another DM had a run I could take over, my DM reminded the other of when I needed to get back. I appreciate that because it showed he actually kept track of my plan. I'm supposed to go home this weekend, just got a run going to MO, reminded DM about hometime, shortly after I got a new run dropping it in Stockton. I know its basic stuff but he had done it for me and hasn't givens any grief about it. My miles havnt been off the charts but I am happy with where I'm at. Got 3250 miles on tomorrow's paycheck, my most yet. Next weeks paycheck will have about 2550 miles, my 3rd most in 7 total solo weeks. 2176, 1818, 3108, 892, 1925, 3218, 2562+DH. The 892 was obviously hometime. The 1818 I had to sit a day or two cuz I had my truck looked at by freightliner. The 1925 was the week after hometime. All in all averages out to about 2200 miles so that's adequate.
Arkansas Frost and awol79 Thank this. -
I was talkin to my dads girlfriend. She used to b a truck driver. She quit cuz she has three kids to raise on her own. Anyways, she said the new truckers don't get miles, and if you're a union trucke driver, when freight gets slow the drivers with seniority keep their gigs while the newer drivers get bumped. Is that common in the trucking Industry? Is central refrigerated union? Is a union good to b a part of? I hear the teamsters unionized USF and Reddway. Truckers there make 60-80k doin LTL wrk.

no central is not union. You want my opinion of unions, look at Detroit ! The UAW killed Detroit. Union killed hostess , need I go on?PSUMoose, Arkansas Frost and awol79 Thank this.

Hostes? ###### I loved cup cakes. Screw unions on that note!
-
All hale the twinky!!!! LoL. Can't forget the twinky
-
It looks like a company bought the hostess stuff because I still see all the hostess products on the shelf as 'mr freshly' or something like that.
