Basically what Armyguy says... Schneider has some good tanker routes I would say though. Hazmat/tanker makes da money.

I hate to burst your bubble but you've got to know those pre-hires really don't mean a whole lot. It's far from a guarantee. What you do need to know is this industry will give you back as much as you put in. If you want to settle for any job and not know that much about how the company works then apply on line with any of the bigger companies. Thier turnover rate is high but that's because the drivers move on to better jobs or wash out. A retiree is very rare. You can find the better of big companies here if you seek the right information. Don't ask about truck type and such and be more concerned with pay, benefits, hometime, safety, etc. Try to find the company that fits you. Make a list of what you want and don't want. Set some goals and try to find the job that will get you there. There's more than just driving a truck. Do you want to haul tanks, flatbeds, van, and so on?
In my day we didn't have the internet to apply for jobs. I know it's a good tool but it shouldn't be your only tool. Try to get information from all kinds of sources. Do not be affraid to go into a terminal and talk with the people. Even if they are not hiring or want experience. You can get a lot of information from them if they are willing. Go in polite and tell them your plans. Scope out the company first and have your questions in mind so you do not waste their time. The most important information you can get is contacts to other companies they might use or know. It's just one way to look for a good driving job. I know I'd want to use all the methods I could so when I was driving down the road later I wouldn't have a case of the doubts.Cman301, starsonwindow and Dryver Thank this. -

I wonder...has anyone ever done a study to see how many newbies regardless of company they get hired on with actually pay off their schooling before getting fired for too many accidents or whatever?
-
Schneider, If you're not sure what type of trucking you will doing they have lots of options to move into which is a lot easier than jumping from company to company.
LTL, Tanker, Bulk, Dedicated, Reefer, Flats, OTR & Regional, Expedited. . .KingTrucker Thanks this. -
It depends on what YOU want to do, Roehl is the only company on that list that has flatbed, as Schneider is the only one with tanks. I started at Roehl, got good training. made good money for a rookie.

Im thinking about doing Flatbed Regional and getting hometime every weekend. I have to do a refresher course first though grrrr, but one im taking is a 7 day course which isnt bad.
starsonwindow Thanks this. -
Schneider tanker first.
Roehl flatbed second.
Don't discount Prime. Might have a tanker or flatbed division in your area.Last edited: Apr 2, 2013
