So I'm waiting until June to make my move, done a bit of research and of course have had a lot of info from my Dad (17 yr veteran) and I'm curious. Starting out where everyone's been, what kind of mileage can a young guy expect. I'm not so concerned about home time, home 3 to 4 days in 4 to 6 weeks I can handle. I'm just curious as to how many miles I could consume in a weeks time, starting out with the company (Central) I'm gonna go with.
I know week to week it's gonna vary, but on average what can I picture?!
Lets be honest!

Don't know specifically Central.
But usually 2000 to 2500.Tonythetruckerdude and KidCountry Thank this. -
I appreciate it Balakov, I know it will also depend on how determined you are to get them. Someone who wants to stop at every little place and sight see isn't gonna make as much as someone who keeps the wheels rollin.

Expect and plan for like Balakov 100 said, if you are solo , if your are teaming expect to maybe double that or pretty close. Just always remember even after you get several years behind you....its not just the number of miles that you run that is the most important. It is the number of miles that you run SAFE that are important.....the time that you try and get that extra 100 in before your time runs out , knowing full well that you are really too tired to make them could be the 1 time that you nod-off and kill an innocent or yourself. No load on the planet is worth your or anybody else s life..don't let another driver , dispatcher , or anyone tell you different. Safety should always be your main concern , not pay/miles , or home time , or anything else...those will come. But if you're not driving safe , then sooner or later you'll be involved in an accident....just remember this. Good Luck!

Thanks Tony, that's DEF something valuable to keep in mind. It helps when you have someone who's been driving for decades such as yourself reach out and give a newbie helpful advice. I believe this will help me in my later years of driving, very much appreciated!

It's all on you when you show your dispatcher u can handle 3000 miles a week they will give it to you. What helps are these few things if you wanna get those miles run your 11 drive time down every day, call recivers up if you have an appointment a lot of the time they will move it up if you communicate with them ahead of time and always fill out your era so your dispatcher can have you ready for another load
KidCountry Thanks this. -
Good advice... oh and keep away from trucks on fire usually cuz that dont end up well.

You are very welcome. The world that you are gonna enter soon is way different than the one I was used to. People are stuck on an I , me complex and they expect instant gratification most of the time.....But take my advice to heart and you'll have a long and hopefully very profitable career in front of you. I'm sure after 17 years your Dad can give you a really good picture of the job. Again , Good Luck , and Happy Trails!

Dschmidt, as a new driver what was the hardest thing for you to figure out?

Do us all a big favor and don't consume them. Drive them instead. That way they will be there for us to drive them too.
