I retired 07/2009 after 23 years of military service. I was no REMF... I was the Flight Chief of an EOD Flight. For those that don't know military lingo, I was a Bomb Squad Commander. I was the guy in the Bomb Suit that worked on Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's). I was the guy that cut the red wire. I served 2 tours in Afghanistan, 1 tour in Iraq, and 1 tour at the Dover AFB Port Morturary processing personnel returning to the US after giving all they can give for their country. I also served during the 1st Gulf War and during several military actions that the US called Conflict Other Than War, like Mogadishu, Somalia and other ###### holes.
I gave my country three major wounds and one technical death. Thats right... I actually went into Cardiac Arrest after being wounded and died. Thanks to very good medics I woke up three days later in a hospital. After retiring I tried my hand as a Federal Contractor. That didn't work out too well. Between the Federal Budget going into the trash I found out that I have extream PTSD. I discovered I can't work in an office. That's why I want to go on the road.
I was trained by the military to drive several types of vehicles, including combination vehicles. When I went to my state DMV they gave me my Class B with Tanker, HAZMAT, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, and even School Bus endorsements. However, the Troops to Trucks program required me to go to a Class A Driving School to get my Class A license.
Anyway, I'm having problems with double clutching. I know how to drive a manual transmition. The state DMV requires Double Clutching while testing so I have to learn it.
I'm looking for an Owner/Operator that can help a veteran in the Northern Virginia (Manassas) area that is willing to let me team drive. I feel all I need is time and experienced instruction. The school instructors that I'm working with just arnt cutting it. I will drive for free! Depending on the situation I'll pay for the fuel and even pay the owner a couple of bucks for the help.

Veteran or not we see these posts all the time and O/O's aren't interested in spending their time training . No O/O is going to "team" and spend time in the sleeper while a newbie tears his transmission up . If you couldn't learn it at CDL school how much longer will you need .You aren't teaming getting instructed .
As far as being a veteran goes , I'm a veteran . I served because I felt I had an obligation to earn the freedom I have . I don't feel anybody is obligated to me in any way because of my service . -
If you are in a school, then it's their responsibility to get you squared-away for the test, including double-clutching. That is a basic, fundamental skill. If you need extra stick time, they should work with you. When I went to school in 1989, we had a kid who'd never driven a stick at all....
As for your PTSD, trucking will not help. It's very stressful mentally, and you are on your own with minimal support.
So, as my jarhead pals say: "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome!"

In an unrelated comment, I want to thank you all for your services to your country. As a foreigner that has learned to love the US for what has given me, I always try to pay especial attention to the vets in needs. If I may, I also feel this country is not doing enough for the ones that served.
I would think school is the best way for you to learn it. If you have a hard time with it, perhaps you might want to look elsewhere for your next career. Maybe even local driving perhaps?

remember the adams family tune dadadada....da..da when you hit the da..da part push in the clutch each time while shifting the dadadadada is the rpms going up just try it sounds stupid but I am a retired infantry vet and it worked for me.
