Leaving for Orientation 10-13-12 in Tulsa,Ok

Will Melton allow a dorm style refrigerator or thermo-electric 12v cooler only?

 

They have apu's so... You should be able to use a refrigerator in the truck.

 

you can use anything as long as it fits.

 

So if your a experience truck driver with no Flatbed experience do I still go out with a trainer or go straight out after orientation?

 

i see you have two years of experience, you should have to go through a four day orientation, then (assuming all goes well...pee test back ground etc) be put in a truck on your fourth day to go forth and burn fuel

 

How's the home time? I see melton trucks here like crazy so I'm in a prime lane but I dont really want to be out more than 2 weeks at a time. One thing I like about maverick is majority of their drivers get home on weekends.

I talked to a recuiter and I asked if you have 5 months OTR experience then would I have to go with a trainer and she said no I would just have to do the orientation and securement training then I'll get my truck.

 

home time is a two edged sword....its nice to get home to the fam regularly, but on the other hand it really, really effects your paycheck...i used to get home every week with the old company, but my miles were like 1500-1800 (if i was lucky)...melton told me i would be out two to three weeks at a time (and from what i understand they like to see at least two weeks...i could be wrong) but i plan on bein out at least a month at a time....nice thing about melton though is that you bank a day for each week your out, so if your out four weeks then take two days off (as im planning on doing), then you save two days for later use. another thing to think about is that with the warmer weather comming on, miles are going up (basicly its the busy season for the diving buisness). so you want to take advantage of the miles while they are there, then when it gets slow again take more home time. just a suggestion...everyone is different and money needs vary...hope this helps

 

Great strategy Snowwolf! I have a pre-hire (I know, virtually useless) from Melton and am pushing in their direction. I retired from USN and I saved up my leave like crazy. If I was on a 6-month deployment I would save up that leave. A lot of folks didn't...they would blow it when they pulled into various ports of call. When I retired from USN I had 90 days of leave on the books. Thanks for showing me this is possible even in the civilian world.
