progressive won't be an issue. As it's also a 2nd tier provider.

If you get into the more prime carriers, it's going to be an issue.

I do well.....depends on who you ask.......using pre emision equipment. you can get good tractors that you can recondition into fine fuel efficeint tractors for 12 - 15 k. Ylu have to be or should be able to pay cash and budget 20 k per year for ALL parts and repairs. Figure 4 years to get into top notch. No bank payments low taxes and insurance. You can park it if you like, no problem. I spend on improvements where I get most in return on fuel cost. Those savings allow you to do other things. Plan, educate, and KNOW your numbers. Good goals.....35% of gross to fuel. .55 or less per mile. ..17 to .20 on ALL parts and repairs. Fixed .10 or less. Based on 100 - 120 k on all miles per year. You do not have to figure replacement if sell and replace with simular equipment. It should be close to a wash. I have an 84 359 36" flat top thats doing 7.41 took 5 years & 100 grand to learn how to do it. Now im looking at an 95 377 60" flat top that the asking Price is 14k, will not have to redo as much as the 359. Hope the learning curve kicks in. Hoping I can get 12 K for the 359.. Or I will put in the barn.

    price is 14 k

I knew an O/O who bought a new truck. Only time he made money was when the truck was newer. After it hit 7 years old it seemed like he was putting major repairs into it every other trip. He finally sold it when it was 10 years old for $13K.

How much do you think a truck with 500k-700k miles still costs? At least $40k plus add another $20k for a decent trailer ($30k for a reefer) and you can see that's a hell of a monthly payment. Not even counting base plates and insurance. If were to spend that kind of money to buy myself a job I would much rather buy one of those nice dualie Sprinter vans for $40k and sign on to an expedite company. Much cheaper vehicle to maintain, can park it almost anywhere, and use it as a personal car too.

I read your entire post on that thread. I would like to see your business plan - no need to post 80 pages just a short version. Then it would would be nice to see how much money you're actually bringing in before and after your maintenance/repair fund contributions. Above all I'd like to see what freight lanes you're running, for how much, and how many miles per week you run.

So you "made" $3k in 11 days. Meaning you "make" roughly $6k a month. Now deduct your truck/trailer payments, insurance, what have you. I don't see how you are making more than a company driver.:dontknow: That's not even counting potential repair costs. Also you shouldn't parade your results as typical. You took a big risk by starting off with just $4k and got lucky very lucky with a good used truck. Your motor could have blown a 100 miles down the road from your first load pick up and then what? Unless you have a friend or family member with deep pockets who could have bailed you out I don't see how you would have gotten out of that.

Your ship could have sunk before even leaving port. Telling people to follow your lead is not just bad but simply dangerous advice. You might as well advise for them to take their money to the blackjack table.

Go for it. People are out buying new cars and pick-ups everyday that cost more than what you can get started for. If you could afford the payments on a new vehicle then what's the difference. Even if you only make as much as a company driver your better off. If you think getting started in trucking is expensive then look no further than starting a poultry farm. 250,000 for one house with a gross revenue of around 60,000/yr.
