Not exactly no. We have had some bleed off to Nabors as they started up and promised the moon, typical turn over rate for people looking for greener pastures, we have people here from calfrac, trican, schlum etc.. as they have ex sanjel people.. once you're in this industry you move around. I am still at Sanjel and they've been very good to me.
Back in sept they let go of about 20 people from our shop, mostly know nothing, do nothings.. they were watched throughout the summer and the people who were asked to leave or shown the door did so, it was just a house cleaning.
Recently they are ' restructuring ' and a few internal people have been let go or moved onto other jobs, I think out of all of red deer its about 26 people that are office types, plus as i mentioned some bleed off as people went elsewhere.. however we have people from those other companies coming in and being hired all the time so its just business as usual.
I would imagine everyone is preparing for what might be a long breakup. The weather has been odd lately, the road bans are already on in some places and i've been on some pretty sloppy leases in the last few weeks.
200 though, no.. nowhere near 200. Since December we've been going hard at it, i've been out nearly every single day on my hitches, theres 3 more on the board this week and several when I get back (I'm on days off right now)

You know.. that I fully understand. I had to do some commuting back and forth as I owned a home in Kamloops BC (still do) and thats where my family was.. so from January 2012 to May 2012 I commuted from my rented place and work in edson back to kam for my days off.. it just doesn't work.. 300 in gas for the round trip, extra insurance charges (what some BC people may not know is if you're in an accident -regardless- of where you have it, and ICBC finds out you work in another province they absolutely zero your insurance unless you're paying the additional for territory z.) My insurance went up on my truck from 97.00/month to 259.00/month + gas, + expensive rental + food + being away from family and it made no #### sense to continue. My wife tried to like edson but just couldn't. So we elected to relocate to Red Deer and have been here now nearly a year. Insurance is cheaper, my house is rented out top and bottom so it's paying for itself. I'm close to work but more important close to family. My gas costs have shrunk dramatically, right away you pay less tax etc. There is so much work here that unless you don't have 2 feet and a heart beat you shouldn't even bother.
Also, you people from the maritimes.. please leave your drama at home.. all the people here I know from out east have rediculous family issues.
And, to throw people a bone who are looking, there was a job fair here in Red Deer today, looks like several oil field companies are indeed already ramping up to replace the people who have left / burned out from the busy season. No time like the present to knock on doors, get yourself moved and get your training in before things dry out. I know how it is, I was in your position a year and a half ago, it took getting out here to make it work. Forget about sitting at home and sending resumes, thats useless, no-one reads them anyways.
Red Deer 2013 Job Fair
It was today, but they can get a feel for the positions that are neededPrairie Boy Thanks this. -
I f I had to move from Edmonton, Red Deer would be one of my 1st choices. Saskatoon and Lethbridge another.

Guess some of us are lucky enough to work for a company who pays all my expenses to and from work and while I'm here. So I have no need to sell/rent my home.

my territory z is only $40 extra

And even with territory z, if the vehicle is out of BC for more than 183 cumulative days since Jan 1, your insurance is void. I am switching my registration and plates to Alberta and its cheaper too, terr z is another ICBC scam if you ask me. I am not changing my license though, they make you retest to get a BC license again if you have an out of province.

Oh, the other night I had an interesting experience. Had to wait till 10 pm to get off lease when the roads were more frozen. As it was I had to get catted out of the mud, went a couple hundred meters down the road to kick mud off so I could chain off and the prick county cop was waiting there. Fined for having chains on a county road and was also sposed to have a copy of the permit the consultant was holding. WTF? So anyway my company is gonna fight it.

i know, i told you this last yr.

Hi jamesg. Ouch. It was my impression that the authorities would be a little more co-operative. The multiplier effects of black juice should be good for everybody in the region. Why squeeze the goose that lays golden eggs?

What's that about? Never heard of that in Alberta before. Can you say which county? What do they expect a guy to do, slide in the ditch and then make a worse mess when the cat or tri-drive winch shows up to try and get you out? Oh, wait, was it a paved road by chance? That could be different, but I still sympathize because if you're coming off a muddy side road onto paved secondary you need to run a little way to get enough mud off the chains to get them undone.
