I wouldn't do that. 300-500 mile deadheads are comon place and there is no fuel surcharge on empty miles (.88 empty, .94 loaded). More then a few times, I had to deadhead over 300mi just to pickup a 180mi run (with three days on it). If you have your own truck and could take it anywhere, almost any other company would pay you more then National Carriers. Before I signed on with them as lease, the recruiter painted a great picture, fuel surcharge on all miles, 3000+ miles a week, ect ect, but when I got to orientation, they were "nice" enough to correct me on all the lies I was told.
to give you an example on their deadheads, I picked up in Galvelston going to Wyoming. Great load but because they have no freight there or in Colorado, I was deadheaded from Wyoming to Dodge City Ks. Once in Dodge, I sat for the rest of the week waiting for my load to be ready.
Like I said, just about any company would be better to go with then these people.

I have to agree with beerslave.big ole bear is blowing smoke with the stuff he was spewing.ive been on plenty of meat loads out of co,tarheel, and dodge....#### near every meat load would run 1-3 days on avg....for a old timer with 17 years say he's never had to wait more than a few hours is in fact 1 of the funniest things ever said on ttr...just saying.also someone with 17 years would def be making more than 34cpm.also most. Old timers i know are o/os or getti g paid really good as company.also they arent working for a big mill company.not all but most.i mean if your not making over 1500$ a week take home by the 3 year make as a trucker then somethi g is very wrong..
Sorry about errors on phone... -
Lol, I actually got an email a few days ago from National Carriers. They wanted to inform me I was on their re-hire list and would I consider coming back. Of course, I had to reply to the email by asking what they were offering. I then said they could start with the money they still owed then, said that the weeks without a paycheck was a huge incentive, along with the tremendous pay of .34 a mile when I would manage to get a load. I went on and on and go figure, the idiot never replied back. Awwww.

I put companies in three categories, the starter company (Schneider), the transition company (National or JB Hunt), and the real companies where you can actually make a living. So why after 17 years, not only are you at National but claim they are such a good company when everyone knows what a joke they are.
And one more question, do you live in your truck? Even, lets say for arguments sake, you did get decent miles, which you don't, and subtract living expenses on the road, your take home a month would be UNDER 2K a month at .34 a mile.
So, how long have you really been driving for? -
Hey guys ive been reading the post on this thread. This company sounds awful but! Ive seen allot of their adds to recruit drivers. The one that caught my eye was one that says. Teams home weekends 4000-6000 miles a week. This is in southern california area. Any info on that?

National Carriers will tell you anything to get you in the door but, things change pretty quick. I know your new to the biz and might not know that there are more then a few companies you should stay away from. I, personally, would put National in the top five to stay away from.
You have been warned.123456 Thanks this.
