When I did orientation with Landstar last month there was a total of three (3) at the class. Plenty of leg room for me.
3yrs experience in day cab not good enough for landstar

So by their standards, you could have 20yrs exp at a local gig but doesn't equal to 1 year OTR lol. You know what, if these are their standards then they don't need me and I don't need them. I just talked to one of my good friends that's been independent driver with a fleet of trucks for many many years and I am probably going to go under his authority which actually may work out better seeing as how he has good contacts and does real good. Oh and ill get more than 65% cut. -
So that made me more motivated. I didn't think he'd go for it that's why I didn't ask him before, but I talked to him today and asked him about going under his authority and he was for it. Just need to have a sit down with him so we can iron out the details.

Look at it this way ,they did you a favor turning you down!
Real Deal and danwantstodrive Thank this. -
You don't get it because you do not want to get it. It is a lot different than you can possibly image to not go home when you want.
I have done both OTR, Regional and local in fact right now Im driving a day cab and home every night and loving it. There is a adjustment period that involves serious bouts of anxiety and frustration being stuck away from home. Or when your passing within miles of home have not been there for a month and you can not stop or the delivery will be late.
Seriously you do not want to buy a truck and jump into OTR without at least a year running 48 states. They are not messing with you they are keeping you from potiently a bad situation. -
No offense but I cut my teeth in NYC and the boros as well as north Jersey years ago, when I hit the road and went out west it was a totaly diffrent nieghborhood! Yea i can blindside down alleys and dock dam near anywhere I want, traffic doesnt bother me a bit. But my first few times in the northwest and south west, I dam near soiled my undies!.. lol snow and ice cover mountains and winds, made a whole diffrent kind of driving! I can see your point but LS is right the tri state isnt the big road. Take your buddies ride, see if you like it out here and come back and try again.

I said it before and will say it again, they declined be because I drive a daycab. I am regional and tho I drive a daycab I do stay out some nights a week in a hotel. I even said to the recruiter "so your saying I can't apply because I drive a daycab in the northeast" she replies, "yes, you need the experience in a sleeper" so I said "so if I was doing the same job now just with a sleeper, that would qualify me" she replies "yes". That's why I am just takin back at this.. I could have worked a year here in the northeast, a year in the northwest, and a year in the southwest all driving daycabs and that still would not qualify me. Again the issue is the sleeper vs the daycab.. This is what she said to me. Maybe she just didn't know what she was talking about. But when I called mercer and the guy there said the same, well I got my answer. What Powder Joints says make a hell a lot more sense than what you said and btw before I worked here where I am now, I got hired on at swift and was in training for 4 weeks OTR and was fine with it. I only quit because I got called by my current company I work for now. I would prefer to drive a sleeper because working those 14hr days then getting 10hrs off are hard at a local gig because by the time I get home, eat, shower, and unwind a little bit, I get 5-6 hrs sleep.
