In one word....Convienence. Easy to get in/out, food choices, sit down and fast food. Sometimes you gotta' grab something and run. Clean showers/restrooms. No riff-raff allowed to hang around the parking lot soliciting. And enforcement of rules. If you post signs or have red curbs, enforce these rules. And fill the pot holes. Separate fuel desk from store purchases. Truck drivers hate having to wait behind families in their 4 wheelers buying candy bars and cokes etc. And lastly, a full service truck stop, including scales/wash rack/mechanics/tires everything. A small city.
What do you look for at a Truck Stop?

Thanks Lepton1 for your input. This is all going into my marketing plan

Thanks for your input

How much would you pay for shower? How much do you pay to fill up your tank? -
Thanks for your thoughtful input. So having a separate fuel cashier from the rest of the shop makes a lot of sense since you guys have no time to waste. We are designing a full service truck stop mainly targeted to truckers here in Volusia County, FL at I4 and USHWY 472.
This really helps. Thanks again.Last edited: Apr 5, 2013
Big Don Thanks this. -
Put it to you this way then.
You are travelling.
Would you use your own place away from home?
There was a pilot store manager here. I challenged him and his staff to go in and use their own facility and come back after 2 weeks and tell us what he thought.
He never came back....
That includes the bathrooms, the showers etc....
It's an extension of our house(truck) away from home.
It's not just YOUR business. -
I could not agree with you more MNDriver. You probably spend more time on the road than at your home, therefore a truck stop should feel like a home away from home. Cleanliness, quality of facilities and amenities, and optimal customer service should be the key ingredients to a successful travel stop.
MNdriver Thanks this. -
It's like Romper room. Maybe you should have rubber walls and a bathroom you can hose down. You'll see. After a few douchebags trash your barhrooms and break your trip pak and transflow machines, you'll be less and less obliging.

No offense, but from the questions you are asking it seems you are not yet qualified for this endeavor. What is your role in the design process?
