actually May has a terminal here, as do FFE, Jim Palmer, Grand Island Express. You could look at Voyager Transportation, have heard mixed reports on them. From what I recall, they are OTR and you'd typically be out 1 week to 10 days.

Aha! May was saying that I could perhaps "visit" the house while waiting for loads about six years ago - so it sounds like they've expanded. I've heard that CAST is a good place, but they don't accept new drivers. There's a flatbed outfit down in the Springs... Fitzgerald, I think?

I am considering Schneider... They have several regional openings that accept rookies and pay pretty well . There is a Family Dollar route , Dedicated Driver of Auto Parts Ford automaker between Memphis & Denver , & another auto parts dedicated regional driver position. They all pay around 50k to start. Does anyone know what these routes are like ?

Schneider/GM cross dock operation is what your talking about, from what I see it's a lot of night work. NAPA might be hiring for route drivers, generally one to two nights out, typically as a team. Yeah, CAST and APEX are good companies, they don't take rookies though.

Not sure about Fitzgerald... it's not ringing any bells. You're not, by chance, talking about the one on Garden of the Gods next to the HVH drop yard, are you? If it is, then you're thinking of Meyer Trucking, and I don't think that's where the OP wants to go...Last edited: Apr 6, 2013

By the way, I went to the Walgreen's at Academy and North Carefree since I needed smokes and the woman wanted ice cream, and I happened to see a McLane truck unloading at the 7-11 across the street. So I talked to them, and they told me they're out of Longmont on 119, and that they're always looking for drivers (I will admit it raises a red flag for me). Home every weekend, and a couple nights during the week. Might be worth looking into.

Sounds pretty decent to me.Hotwheelsx2 Thanks this.

That could very well be, it's been a couple of years since I saw that flatbed. I always notice the trucks with Colorado base plates on them- just out of, "Gee, I might want to change what I'm doing," someday.
I've delivered to McLane's up there in Longmont. No idea how they treat their drivers, although they have to unload their own trucks at the customer's site. The warehouse crew seem to be upbeat enough compared to some of the slave pits I've delivered to.Hotwheelsx2 Thanks this. -
I talked to Mclane in Longmgont , but they require 120,000 Hours of driving experience ... First time I heard of an hours prerequisite . The Schneider recruiter said the Family Dollar position is primarily a daytime operation job. Delivering within a 350 mile radius of Denver , off weekends...

Day cab or sleeper? Meyer is a good company for a very specific type of driver. Leo Meyer is not an easy man to work for, but he's got it together - there's no question about that. Drivers are out typically 14 - 16 days at a time, but... you will be expected to come in and help with maintenance.
The guy I talked to last night seemed to like it. But it's definitely not for someone with an aversion to physical labor.
You sure about that? Because 120,000 hours even at an average of 35 MPH is still 4.2 million miles. I just looked at the company website, and for a position they have open in Longmont currently, the requirements say either two years or 50,000 miles of tractor-trailer experience, which anyone whose run OTR for six or seven months should have.
