To be honest with you, you may find a school that will accept you but they will not be concerned with getting you a job as much as getting your money. Even if it is a trucking companies school they will get you on the hook for the tuition then not give you a job. You cannot get hazmat for 10 years after a felony conviction. My advice would be find a company like swift or crst to agree to hire you then let them put you thru school...i have a brother in same shape and he never got a job...good luck

 

You're very welcome.Just make sure you have a job lined up before attending any school.Many make the mistake going to school then they start looking for work and can't find anything and have the school bill now.

 

I would guess it would be how long ago the felony was. look into companies requirements for drivers tells you how long ago felony was before they will accept you. schools may not care but after you get out u want to be employable. call some 1800 numbers and talk to recruiting dept.

 

It really depends on how old your felony is and what kind of felony it is. Most companies want it to be 7 years old but if it is for drugs it needs to be 10 years ago. Some felonies you will never get on no matter how old it is. So I would suggest calling several companies to find out what there policies are. Wouldn't hurt to get a prehire letter if possible.

 

You might want to expand your possibilities for employment because you more than likely wont find a trucking job anywhere with a felony on you record. Even if you did manage to find a driving job you would still be hard to employee down the road.

 

Traplord , these folks have all given you some great ideas and leads. I can only add, since you have not given the pertinent info on the felony charge that, it will be hard to get your foot into the door of MOST really good companies to begin with , you must remember that fact. In time (5 or more years) and with a good work history plus an accident free driving record, you may be able to get that "goodJob" we all dream about. Its entirely possible, but an up-hill struggle. You'll be competeing with men/women that have clean records , as I'm sure you are aware. But Good Luck

 

Sheridan Tech, west campus in pembroke pines takes most all comers. Just graduated there recently. Its a good program, two months and a thousand miles driving and it's fairly inexpensive compared to other schools in this area, while being the best school hands down.

 

Look at publicly funded programs (IE: community or technical colleges) for training. The next question: Will you be able to get a job? The bottom line, it depends what the felony was for whether you can get Hazmat or not.

 

thats a no go on getting a class A if you have a felony companies cant put you on there insurance-

 

You are not probaly going to get on with one of the mega carriers,but you can find a company to work for, I have a friend that did 3yrs for 1st degree assault & got on with a decent co two mnths after getting out of prison, but he had over 10yrs experince before he got locked up. so keep positive!
