I have a 2001 model mfg in 2000, It has 893K miles on it with a N14. I personally have owned this truck for 10 yrs and still going strong. Granted my truck is a Canadian truck, but despite what some will say, the cab & sleeper is still constructed by hand and you still can order the truck with optional Hendrickson suspension. Take away the cab and sleeper, all trucks are the same... so this leaves construction of the cab/sleeper.

I drove a WS daycab and really liked that truck!

Got a grandpa truck. Made 8 years in it. Custom made. Never a problem.

Got a 2012 4900EX with a DD15 set at 560/1850 married to a 13 speed. Just did my first Quarter IFTA: 5.68 pulling gross weight from Wisconsin to California in a curtain van. Same story heading back east with weight. Last 3 quarters averaged 6.01 mpg.
I've owned 1 KW (W900L with a 6NZ) and 2 Peterbilts. One was a 379 flattop and one was a 387 both with Acerts. Pete's IMHO are SEVERELY over rated! About the only thing I didn't do was come running out of the truck stop and hood slide like Bo Duke then crawl through the window and take off!! I swear all those Petermobilin' nuts at least think of this and may even practice it. At some point I wouldn't be a bit surprised if hood sliding over a Pete becomes part of the truck shows.
Anyway, as far as my experience with a Western Star is concerned it's the finest truck on the market. Kenworth comes in second. Room between the seats can't be beat. I have the 82" Stratosphere. I can stand up from either of my seats and walk into the bunk. Insulation and sound abatement can't be beat. I've got the Air Liner suspension cushioning a 264" WB. Fit and finish are awesome!! The only place I don't have windows is on the right and left side upper portion of the sleeper. Weight is a little heavier then I would like. However once I was shown how Western Stars are engineered the weight factor wasn't a factor anymore. Stars are built using grade 8 bolts. No Huck Bolts!! Also, every WS is custom built. Yep.......you want a switch on the outside of you sleeper at the rear You can get one!! Cost of a new Star is what you would expect from a premium OTR tractor. Remember......you get what you pay for, unless of course you buy a Pete. I have found though that Western Star dealers that are stacked with a Freightliner dealer don't even come close to the stand alone Western Star dealers.sdaniel Thanks this. -
if you dont mind...what did you pay roughly??

I got a quote for a 2014 4900fa lowmax glider with an air ride front and 46k rears in 6x2 config, right at $100k with my engine and trans. It had the dinette option too. I'm going to stick with my Canadian 2000 4964ex for another year as I'm buying or building a house this year.

Just north of $155

Have heard fritzgearld has started building western star gliders . Bout 135 turn key. Great trucks! The Pete guys attack every thing non Pete!
217flatbedr Thanks this. -
I just spec'd a 2014 Lowmax, 600 cummins, 275 wheelbase, 68" flattop.i love the look of the interior. I drove Pete and kW chicken trucks for the most part of 14 years. A change in truck and looks is all want.havent been this eager for a new truck in a long time! I was always a Pete and cat man, a glider was the first stop but the boss was nervous. I'm spoiled pretty good as it is so I'll settle for the star!
ordering next month, that will give a few months to pick at it and maker pretty. 13 lights across the top. Custom 18" visor, stainless smooth deck plate and a t bar and flu fenders for the back! Atlantic Canada and Maine bound!
