They informed me today that the transmission will be changed for a new one. They do not have in stock so it will take another two days to get it.
The shift stick is indeed a premium one but I used the manual mode only last week when I had that problem, to "jump" the faulty gears, to be able to bring it to the garage. This truck its not an abused one, honestly, and maintenance is done on a regular basis. And yes it seems to be a pretty complicated transmission. Trucks they are more and more complicated, full of electronics and electrical controls, prone to fail, especially here, with long canadians winters. Logically a truck should be "a tool" , strong enough to do its job that it was built for. It should provide fast access to its components, fast diagnostics, etc. I hope Volvo doe not make military products, cause you can loose a war with these kind on machines. These days, things must fail, as the consumer to buy preventive products as packets of warranties, only the producer (and its dealers) could fix certain major problems, and you as a client what could you do?

really I'd say I-shift is not so weak (((

Pablo Ive got a question for you considering your extensive knowledge of these volvos, Ive got a 2013 160,000 miles on it now, just lastnight I was doing a general crawl under to inspect things and I grabbed a hold of the drive shaft right at the yoke coming out of the transmission (Ishift as well) gave it a shake and niticed play in the yoke like you would feel in a differential with a bad pinion bearing probably about an 1/8 of movement. is that normal?
-
really Volvo says it is normal. Anyway keep inspecting it periodicly. To fix it you have to remove Range Unit (rear end of tranny).
From 2007 Volvo use no gaskerts, they use sealant. So use pry bar to remove it, but remove tranny cover first and it is not easy becouse you need laptop to take it out -
I do not agree with you
you can remove cover without computer
how do you think if gearbox control unit is completely dead and with computer you cant connect to gearbox hou you will remove control housing? -
Torch and/or dynamite. Really, the only tools you need for a Volvo.
-
No dynamite is neaded
just nead to remove control unit from gearbox contril hausing and with 8,5bar preassure air yiu can switch gears. If cintrol unit is works you can engage gear with gear selector for oldest i-shifts is 12 gear to remove control hiusing for new 4. It is very simple
