We pick up frac sand from Amarillo down to Rankin, from Voca to Monahans. Lots of wells around Monahans, Hobbs, NM and Carlsbad, NM.

How long have you been down there (texas)
-
Yes, you will have to take the hazmat over again in Texas:
If you can afford to do the hazmat in both places, and assuming that your move to TX isn't imminent, I would suggest that you go ahead and add it in CA. That will give you the benefit of knowing that you can pass the test in TX, as well as being able to tell companies that you already have it. That will make you seem more serious and will make you a more desirable candidate for a job. -
You would have to take hazmat all over again..

okay good to know

First, do yourself a favor. STOP APPLYING FROM OUT OF STATE AND GET DOWN THERE!!! I did all that BS online application junk from NC and what a waste of time. Drove down to TX, got a cheap hotel, ran around to some places and did a little networking. Saw an ad on craigslist, told them I was in the area and wanted to work for them and I was hired. This all took less than a week!
If you are going to TX your tanker will swap over but you will have to retake the hazmat. But since you already have hazmat from your old license you will be grandfathered in to haul hazmat until your TX background check comes in so why wait? The fact I had tanker, hazmat, and TWIC card before I applied for the job separated me from the pack and let my potential employer know I would get the all clear to go to work.wowo6057 Thanks this. -
Rockdoctor: so after you got the cheap hotel, you didn't have to go to a UPS store, or mail box etc store and get a P.O.Box? When I come down there I was thinking I would have to do that, as well as get a little prepaid cell down there with a texas area code. (To separate myself from online applicants, I have all my endorsements and twic also)

Please Help ! I need my CDL asap, (will also need housing, BUT I AM FINDING "affordable" places to stay in Midland, thus not worried about that part).
I currently live in Vegas, am about to pack the car or RV & go to Midland, but MOST ARE SAYING TO GET THE CDL "BEFORE" COMING TO TEXAS...
Now seeking to get CDL in Vegas before coming to Tx, (my current expenses here in Vegas & cutting into my "future rent" monies)... All to get the CDL before coming down.
Can someone PLEASE CLEARIFY THE STIPULATIONS OF GETTING A CDL VIA THE OIL COMPANIES OFFERING THEM?!?!?! I know about the OTR companies "offering FREE CDL trng" = they OWN you for 1 yr.
But are the oil companies any different???
Thanks guys for immediate responses ! -
Im confused, it says you have 2 years experience
do you already have a CDL and need a refresher?

No I was able to get hired on with an out of state license and kept that for a couple of months. I was unable to get a PO BOX at the post office until I had a utility bill or lease, so you may want to get one at a private mail box etc type store if you need that. As far as the cell phone # I have had the same one for years, a North Carolina number, and have no plans to ditch it. I think most drivers I work with do that because we move around a lot, chase jobs, or want to keep a local number so our family can call us on a land-line without it being long distance. If you are say in S Texas and you contact someone about a job, you are going to let them know " I am in the area and I am ready to work, can I come interview or speak with someone in person at your company about a driving job? " This means a lot more to them than thumbing through 60 applications per day looking at drivers who may already have a job some other place or no intention on moving to the area.
Sounds like you have the CDL and the right endorsements to get hired. Figure out where you want to live and head to that central area. We wanted to be in S Texas so we based ourselves out of San Antonio then got the job and had to relocate over to Victoria just a couple of hours away. I know in S TX Cotulla, Karnes, Kennedy, George West, these are all places where drivers are in demand. W Texas is booming obviously so you know where to go if you want to live there. Even the TX panhandle has a ton of drilling and driver demand. Good luck!superpet39 Thanks this.
