Hello! My husband is looking to get his CDL A and are actively searching for a school. We live in Central New Jersey and would prefer to find a place in state. We are not against having to pay for it because he would prefer to not have to go out of state for schooling. We've looked into several throughout the state but aren't sure which ones are good and which ones are bad. ANY advice and/or opinions would be great! Also, if you could give a possible cost for the schooling it would be wonderful. THANk YOU so much!!

Community College CDL schools, or Roadmaster or Sage. Community College is usually cheaper.
-
Smith & Solomon ... Search for the threads.
$3/4 K ... Depending on whether you do the permit training too (4k).
There are those that cost less ... Don't have as good of a pass rate. -
s & s are the worst. basically you will learn on your own. this comes from a 1989 grad.

We did look into S&S because there's a location down the road from us but have only heard negative comments. Mostly that you stand around a lot waiting to do any driving.
I know there are a few Community Colleges (unfortunately, none close) that offer a course so we were thinking about that.
Also, there's a trucking company, Shore Tractor Trailer Training, that have both bad and good reviews. My husbands main concern, outside of money, is the number of trucks and students, etc.

I just went to smith & Solomon in PA and was satisfied. Like any business they need more students to make money. It wasn't to bad though. They basically set you up to pass.

i have done recruiting for transam at all the local schools in toms river area
went thru smith and soloman myself in lakewood
smith and soloman is the only school i would reccomend
lakewood location is the smallest of all the smith and soloman locations
so you get the most time in a truck
know this these schools only teach you enough to get a license
learning to drive for a living is another matterJB 1022 Thanks this. -
if you follow my advice tell tinane captain pete sent you

Thanks for your response to me earlier this week on information about a trucking school. I called and said you sent me and she was more than willing to answer the hundred and one questions my husband had. Our only problem now is that we need the money for him to attend.
