One thing about running a lot of NorthEast is they do treat the roads with chemicals that take the freeze point down into the teens. Unless you are in the middle of a major storm the roads will be cleared in short order. That isn't always true out West. I was in Wyoming this winter when I-80 got shut down for about 5 inches of snow. Looked at the weather and saw 28F by 8 AM and figured it would be smooth sailing on wet roads once the sun came up.
They don't use salt in Wyoming..only sand to keep the tree huggers happy. A wreck stopped traffic on the hill between Cheyenne and Laramie. Some of the lighter trucks couldn't get moving and had to throw chains. That road would have been clear with only a couple of passes of a salt truck.

yeah that just doesn't make any sense does it? can't offend people who aren't even going to be out driving in it anyway now can we? lol morons bet they want their #### at walmart when they go there though and piss and moan when the truck couldn't get there hahaha.......yeah generally the main roads aren't so bad unless it's just the start of it and they didn't get out there quick enough or it's really coming down or it really gets cold cold or you have to get too far off the main road.......shippers and receivers and drop lots are another story altogether though......some of my worst times this past winter were just trying to get the trailers swapped or get in/out of the dock/dock area

oh yeah can't forget the frozen wipers lol those are the most fun of all

well my day just got considerably more annoying for tomorrow. dm just calls. can I go on in to the final early in the morning they need a favor. just by that already know it's something annoying lol.......gotta empty out, go to the texas star yard in Rockwall, drop my empty and red tag it by the guard shack so nobody takes it, then pick one up there that the load shifted on and take it 27 miles back to it's shipper and drop it for rework. then b/t back to rockwall, hope nobody takes the red tag off and pick up my empty, go get my preplan and head back to lake park for late Thursday/early friday. sounds a little too easy huh? don't they have texas star drivers at the yard? have to wonder why one of them doesn't run it over there. gotta be some bs involved. nothing is ever so simple and cut and dried lol stay tuned I guess tomorrow same epes time same epes channel hahaha............speaking of those TS trailers....they must lead a really hard life....relatively same age, model and type as the 61 series of ours but #### those things are beat up.

Our winter is different , not really lighter, or easier. We may not get snow , but 2 to 3 inches of freeing rain. Freezes skating rink smooth! Was in Chicago the winter before last , they got 1/2 inch of freezing rain. Counted 50 wrecks in 10 miles. Then they want to say we can not drive! Was normal driving in it . Heck prefer few inches of snow then a few inches of ice. Bag of speedy dry works wonders in both , when you get to in ground docks .Sprinkle it out like feeding the chickens! It's a bigger grain then sand , so it bites better!

I can't complain about miles this week...but these 5-6 hour load/unload times are getting a bit ridiculous! Even though I am about 30 mins. to 1 hour early....Down in Riviera Beach, waiting to get unloaded. then to Miami for a load(that'll probably take AT LEAST 5-6 hours, again!). Showed up yesterday at Pepsi for a load 7 hour wait(appointment time was 1630...didn't get into a door until 1830!). Had to run over my hours to get parked, since they won't let you park there....I can't stand weeks like this!

So at EPES, you guys never get to go out west? Ever? Does it ever get boring seeing the same places over and over again?
-
We got some Texas freight. Been out to California couple of times. But boring is running out west governed at 63 mph. Look at the same mountain for 3/4 of the day. We get a good mix . And if one has to run north east , at least we get paid a bonus for running up there ! This week has been Midwest and back so far.

well let's see now....get up this morning, run on over to dallas and do my drop, then to rockwall to TSE, drop my empty, pick up a load there for rework and run it back to dallas, come back bobtail and get my empty, and head over to Sunnyvale to load and be on my way to lake park. nothing to it. right. we already knew this was going to be some bs right from the start didn't we? I saw it coming when I got the message yesterday. I burned up 13hrs 15min for 290 miles. maybe i'll tell you about it tomorrow when I've had a chance to unwind, get some sleep and forget today happened and i'm not so ####### pissed. what a day. know i'd rather stay on my side of the river if that's what coming out here means though lol. to be our sister company, tse sure got the short end of the budget stick didn't they?

Here are some questions you want to ask any school private or community colleges.
What type of trucks will you be trained on? How much time behind the wheel ? Class size? Will it be all day time driving? Do they use trucks with auto trans? What size trailers do they have.
I had a student that went to a community college that Epes approved. He told me he spent most of the time in a truck with a auto trans, Only backed up a pup trailer. Only drove the truck a total of 5 hours the the entire time he was in the course. I do not how true this was but the way he drove I tend to think that's true. I did go to a private school here in NC. I thought they did a good job as far getting you behind the wheel on the road night and day. I got plenty of time on the yard for backing. I good discount for paying cash also.
