Hello, I haven't driven since 2000 and I am looking to go back to school. I have a current DOT card and a CDL permit. The first time I went to school in the 90's the trainers were DOT certified testers. So when we passed a battery of test/exams the tester would sign off as we would go. I notice nowadays that there are a lot of CDL schools that will train you, but then they just send you to your local DMV to fend for your self? If I am going to spend $4000-5000 dollars on getting re-certified I want to be trained by DOT certified testers so that when I walk out of the school I have EVERYTHING I need to get a job. Does anyone know what schools in East Tennessee do this?
Thanks!
Kevin

How long did you drive in the 90's? If you have any solo time behind the wheel you could get by with a refresher training. They send you out with a trainer but you don't have to do the classroom/ obstacle course stuff. If all you did was complete school then you will probably have to start over.
You have RoadMasters in Knoxville and Chattanooga State has an excellent course. They use to have a satellite campus in Dayton. I think they moved it to Cleveland. -
I drove with Sathers and J&M Tank lines for 5 years 95-2000. I have asked every school in the south about a refresher course but they all say I have to go back through a full school since it has been so long. That includes Roadmaster, and other knoxville area schools. I know I would pick it right back up like I never left off but I guess they have to make a sell?

That's probably because it's past the 10 year work history background check. You already know the game. It's just a matter of finding the right school.
