Or you could cross reference the two. Buy a truck GPS and after your pretrip just look over the GPS/ route. Suggestion than double check it on your atlas looking for low clearances and and no truck routes and if there is a descrepency make note of it and follow the atlas?

    What is a grid map?

Agreed I use them because half the people i drop cars to when I did POVs didnt know how to get to there new house.
I use a walmart 200$ GPS and it works fine why spend the money on one for trucks at the truck stop when you are going to double check it on the map anyway?

I agree, but I'd go further and say don't trust any one tool.

GPS screw-up of the day: My Navigo (qualcomm/maptuit) wants me to go up highway 206 from Trenton NJ en route to Montreal. NJ 206 is not legal for 8'6" wide trucks (except local deliveries) and a little town along the way loves to write tickets (Princeton).

But the RM motor carrier atlas is not perfect either -- for proof I direct you to page 32, grid E12. US 52 is not actually approved for staa trucks because a little Illinois village called Manhattan has imposed a 65' length limit on the 1-mile stretch going through town. I know because I got my first (& hopefully last) oversize ticket there last year despite having routed using the atlas...

So use both (& google satelite & street view for local), along with customer directions & advice from more experienced drivers.

I was a land surveyor for 30 years. Still licensed in Illinois.

Maybe the old quad maps that shows lat and long...?

The GPS is never wrong! How can a computer be wrong?

Southbound on 7, looking to go West on 80. What right minded driver would not take three cloverleaf ramps instead of one simple right hand ramp?

(the blue line is what the computer wants me to drive)
