What is a grid map?
Not joking. I have never heard that term.

I agree, but I'd go further and say don't trust any one tool.
GPS screw-up of the day: My Navigo (qualcomm/maptuit) wants me to go up highway 206 from Trenton NJ en route to Montreal. NJ 206 is not legal for 8'6" wide trucks (except local deliveries) and a little town along the way loves to write tickets (Princeton).
But the RM motor carrier atlas is not perfect either -- for proof I direct you to page 32, grid E12. US 52 is not actually approved for staa trucks because a little Illinois village called Manhattan has imposed a 65' length limit on the 1-mile stretch going through town. I know because I got my first (& hopefully last) oversize ticket there last year despite having routed using the atlas...
So use both (& google satelite & street view for local), along with customer directions & advice from more experienced drivers. -
Garmin hands down. But always do your homework.Your are the Captain of your ship.

I was a land surveyor for 30 years. Still licensed in Illinois.
