Thanks for the update, Sassy. What a downer! Even when the dust settles up there, it may not be a good choice, as corporate shake ups cause ripples through an organization for months or years.
I'm back to the drawing board myself, re evaluating May and Watkins/Shephard.. both NW companies. I may end up doing local for a while. There's a milk hauling company nearby needing drivers, but their equipment looks like rustbuckets needing repair. (Makes me wonder what the milk tastes like!)
Good luck, Sassy and Willo, and everyone else caught up in the IDC mess.

Wow guys.. when we left Tacoma on Sunday, the trainer who did our "Winter Driving Training" said he was sure the program would be restarted after all the existing employees were properly trained. When did Steve tell you this? I wonder what came down to change their minds?
-
We were told today by a very good source in the training dept that the student training program will be running again at the start of february.
-
I emailed Patti today and asked her if Interstate was still hiring students and if the training hours (OTR) had changed. She said yes, they're still hiring students and the training hours are still 200.

Honestly I think that they will probably bring the program back. Jeremiah asked Steve to just give him an honest answer to what we should do and I think that Steve just doesn't want us to get hurt again, so he said don't wait!
We are still trying to get into a school on our own. Jeremiah's grandmother is sick and hasn't called Roadmaster yet to co-sign for us, but hopefully that will happen in the next few days.
Once we are done with school then we can decide what we will do from there. That gives us time and hopefully IDC will have settled back down. I also spoke with USXpress today and had a really good conversation with one of their recruiters. Of course, I remembered he is a recruiter after all, but he was very nice and informative and I can't say that for all the recruiters of other companies that I have talked to. Anyway of course USXpress does not train husband and wife teams but their training is 4 weeks out and I was told that I could demand a female trainer. Jonas was the recruiter and he said that 33% of their fleet is women (since they also have automatics and that attracts more women) and that it would not be a problem getting a female trainer. I talked hubby into allowing me to go out with a female...he is dead set against me going out with a male trainer. He said that he does trust me but he is just afraid of me getting raped or beaten up! I told him that I can handle myself but I do understand his worries, plus I don't really want to go out for 4 weeks with some man that I don't know by myself.
Well Jonas gave me a list of schools that they hire from in Texas that also have payment options. Me being sick right now does not help things. I am actually kind of glad this all happened because I would hate to be at school right now since I am still sick as a dog.
You all have given me so much hope. I am such a worry wart and hate not knowing what is going to happen, but you all always know just how to ease my fears. So, now I am going to just hope that Steve was just watching out for us and that in time we will be driving for IDC!!! -
Guys.. don't give up yet... If you can stick it out for a bit it may still work out. This is really bad timing for a lot of folks... Mesalands was approached by both Swift and Werner to train for them and turned them down because IDC was keeping the classes full.... NOW a month later, the road driver instructor there is going to go back to hauling cattle until this blows over and they were told it would blow over as well. Very bad timing... we would have been so screwed!!! BTW.. Covenant would have probably been where we went had IDC not picked us up. There are not too many companies that train teams together.
BTW... I'd ask IDC to pay you back for the sitting fees if you cant afford to wait. You paid it in good faith because IDC told you to and since they pulled out at the last moment, it only seems right that they should eat the fees or talk to Mesalands and get them to refund them. -
Jeremiah called Steve yesterday afternoon. I guess around maybe noon or 1pm CST. Steve said Patti was at lunch, so Jeremiah told him he just wanted an honest answer if we should wait or not and he said DON'T WAIT!!! And to come back in 8 months to a year.
-
BTW.. if you go with company where you will not train together, our trainer spoke very highly about Schneider as well. He worked there for a lot of years and has a lot of respect for them. They have their own school too! Just another option. You can demand a female trainer there as well. You may have to wait if one is not available the day your ready, but they will allow you to wait for a female trainer to come available assuming one is not available when your ready.

Heard from my school today. The most recent info they've received from IDC is quote: "no hiring until after the 31st of Jan". Don't know whether that means they'll start hiring students in Feb or not.

Best I have heard is they will restart the program... what date is the big mystery.... They are pulling everyone in as fast as they can for the winter driving training.
